Cratermaze
Reviewed by Inkhands
Alright, this game is very similiar to Bomberman. I'll start
the review by saying that. Also I want to point out that I'm
not exactly a big fan of the Bomberman games. It's not that
I don't like them, but they really just don't interest me
much. They get a little too monotonous. Basically, this one does too.
Okay the title is Cratermaze and they get the title from the
fact that yes, you are in a maze. In this maze are little
red treasure chests. Some you can get just by walking to
them, others require the use of the trampolines and warp
portals before you can get to them. Along the way you
encounter enemies and by avoiding the enemies you use the
crater of the title. It seems the main character has the
ability to make holes in the ground for your enemies to fall
in. You can usually only make one, but if you pick up a
shovel a line of craters will appear from your fingertips.
Also you can acquire a yo yo looking weapon and a little gun
that shoots out bubbles to trap your enemies in.
In the top right of the screen is the number of treasure
chests remaining for you to collect on that stage. Once you
collect them all, a key appears. Pick up that key and find
the door and you have completed that maze and you are on to
the next one. You do the same thing for every maze. It's
repetitive and there certainly isn't much variety in the
mazes. There is a normal setting and a more difficult
setting and that's really all the options this game has.
Graphics and Sound - The main character is a guy walking
around in a blue suit. The enemies are green looking blobs
bouncing at you. You have some water and fish jumping out of
the water. You have little green plants. The view is
overhead and it appears to be in some kind of building. This
game even looks a lot like Bomberman. As for the sound - the
effects are just the enemies falling in the holes. I didn't
really notice the music.
Gameplay - One maze after another. The challenge isn't too
high on the normal mode, at least not for at least the first
15 rounds or so. The difficult setting can be quite
challenging on occasion, as it does allow you certain things
the normal mode does. For example in normal mode you walk
over the craters you create, but in the difficult mode you
can fall right in there the same as your enemies can. So
challenge in this game is medium to high, depending on the setting.
Replay Value - Hmm... no. Although considering each maze is
essentially a replay of the other one, if you did get
through this game the first time, then maybe you would enjoy
going through it again. That is, if you go through it the first time.
Overall - If you like the Bomberman games, then most likely
you will like this one too. If you can get into this game
early on, then I'm sure it's quite addictive. It's a good
game, just not for me. However if this is your type of game,
then don't overlook it.
