Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire
Reviewed by (EniGmA)
The popular strategy series made by KOEI, Romance of the Three Kingdoms,
has spawned yet another great strategy and war game based on ancient
Chinese history. Sure it starts out slow and you must recruit people, one
by one, until you have enough to farm land, train soldiers, and such, but
after you get going, you'll realize that this is one of the best strategy
games there is...
Graphics 7 out of 10
Okay, so the graphics aren't the best, but still they are pretty good for
a mere strategy game. Well animated sprites (most of 'em at least) and
great atmospheres bring out the feel of ancient china......and stuff.....
Music and Sound 8.5 out of 10
Most of the sound is pretty good, and the music is just awesome! The
music changes in the game when you become more powerful (like if you
conquer a huge portion of China) and all of it is good..... ESPECIALLY the
song when you are at war with the enemy and you are the strongest...the
music gets really crappy if you are weaker than the enemy, so it kind of
lets you know how the situation is.
Game Play-Fun 9.5 out of 10
Man, this is one mother of a strategy game. You have a load o' options at
your command like:
Search for Officers, Bribe enemies to attack their teammates in battle,
form alliances with other nations and combine forces to crush other
rulers, then betray the guy you allied with (although they'll come up
with a plan to beat you; the game has VERY good AI....) , you can burn
enemy crops, hire tribes to raid somebody's town, build battering rams
to break through an enemy castle, have duels on horseback with enemy
commanders (my personal favorite thing to do) , all while watching them
speak to each other....The coolest part is in the middle of the duel when
one guy is getting the crap kicked out of him, he'll start to retreat......if
the opponent is feeling extra feisty, he'll chase after him.......now if he's
armed, he'll fire an arrow at the escaping victim...if the victim is strong
enough, he'll deflect it with his spear, but if he doesn't he'll get hit and
will be captured.....and you don't even control it! Each character fights
differently, and they'll do what suits t! hem in the duel...yes, it's that
awesome.....You can also create your own characters! Choose their mug,
their power level, intelligence, other junk too! You can even put your
friends in the game!
The opposing rulers have awesome AI, and every individual characters
has a different personality (that's pretty good considering the game
has over 200 characters!) There's just no end to what you can plan.
Overall 9 out of 10
Overall, this has to be the best strategy game for Super NES I've
seen....way better than it's predecessors....if you like that type of
genre, then buy it now!
