Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
Reviewed by Dyson Turner
Once again another version of Pitfall. This is the 3rd one
for 32x. If you have the Genesis or SNES version this one is
not a must have. There really isn't too many differences
from this or the Genesis version.
Story
For the 3rd time you're the son of the great Pitfall Harry,
Pitfall Harry Jr. He was lost in the Mayan Jungle; it's up
to you to live out his legend and save your old man.
Graphics
Ok the graphics are a tiny bit better than, the Genesis and
SNES version. He still moves great, the Mayan jungle still
looks beautiful, with the waterfalls and caverns and other
things. The sprite size is exactly the same, he still looks
the same as well. He still swings on vines with the same
movement. Overall just a barely noticeable difference to the
naked eye.
Sound
Just like the graphics, the sound is not too much different
than the previous versions. You still hear the same jungle
sounds like trees, and moans, they all sound just as good as
they did on 16 bit. The music sounds a little clearer than
the Genesis version, but it rivals the SNES version in every
way. Only if you have all 3 versions can you notice the
difference.
Game Play
This is a 1 player game only. You are Harry Jr. saving your
father who got lost in the Mayan ruins. You swing on vines
whip snakes jump on platforms, and all the other cra* you
did on Genesis. You have the same weapons like bombs, rocks
and the whip. You need your whip to swing on vines and
things that whips do. To change your weapons you have to
press start, doing this you pause the game as well, so you
have to be careful when doing this. The difficulty varies,
because of the options, and there is no save feature.
Overall 7 out of 10
If you have the other two versions do not get this one,
unless you're some sort of Pitfall fanatic who must have
every version of the game. The replay value is low because
there really isn't much to do after you beat it except solve
the same puzzles again. Well if you don't have any version
of this game at all, and you're new to the pitfall scene
then you will love this game. It still is very fun to play,
and enjoyable.
