Virtua Fighter Remix
Reviewed by Jeremy Peeples
This game was sent free of charge to owners of the Sega
Saturn in November-December of 1995.
Many felt that Sega giving away free games was a sign of
desperation, this turned out not to be the case as Sega
still does this (Sega Swirl anyone?), this game added quite
a bit to the original Virtua Fighter 1 launch title, most
notably the immensly increased graphics, it also added a few
new moves though.
Graphics-8/10- A huge improvement over the original, the
textures are much cleaner and the game ss a whole seems to
have a more polished look to it.
The character builds were the greatest evidence of this,
they looked more like Virtua Fighter 2 characters, (I'd say
about 80% of the look was retained the characters are still
a little blocky when compared to VF2.)
Overall, this is the biggest improvement made from the original.
Sound-6/10- Virtually (no pun intended) the same, the
punches seem louder, but the repetitive music is still tere,
also there are some post-match sound glitches (one of Wolf's
growls comes to mind, it's cut short by about a tenth of a
second, not a major problem, but still an annoyance.)
Story-1/10- The same story that has been used in every
fighting game since Street Fighter 2, you know, the
gathering of the world's best fighters for the title of the
best (insert game title here.)
Very unoriginal, but it's not a major problem.
Control-9/10- Without a doubt one of the game's best
features, it makes getting most of the game's 700+ moves to
work much easier than expected.
Most moves can be executed withour any problems (for
experience players), for beginners it allows you to learn
the basics with ease.
Gameplay-9/10- Again another of the game's best features, it
has a near-perfect balance between fighters that is unseen
in most fighting games.
Overall-8/10- This game is excellent, the great graphics and
gameplay tuly make this game one deserves to be played by as
many people as possible, if you can find it you will
probably not be dissapointed, if you love the series,
you'll love this game no matter what I say.
If you're new to the series, try one of the other games in
the series, for Saturn owners: I recommend Virtua Fighter 2.
For Dreamcast owners: Obviously, Virtua Fighter 3 (it's the
only on on the system.)
