Street Fighter: The Movie
Reviewed by Dyson Turner
Street Fighter the Movie was basically a great game, and
average movie, and barely above average game. It just wasn't
the same as the other Street Fighter's, don't get me wrong I
liked it but it was just something different about it.
Story
The story followed the movie, when you chose your character
you fought each person as they appeared in the movie. This
is basically the same thing you do in all street fighters,
so this really isn't a story. You really won't understand it
unless you seen the movie.
Graphics
The characters resembled Mortal Kombat's style of real
actors digitized. Van Damme is the only one I think actually
posed for the game. Backgrounds directly from the movie,
which are always good are no fully appreciate by the
slowdown broken animation of the fighters. In the arcade
this was no problem, on Saturn however it is. The sprites
were big and did resemble the actors, well which they were
but the overall fact still remains during special and
finishing moves there is too much sloppy animation and
flashes on the sreen which leads to slow down.
Sound
Some how the Sound FX is a lot worst than any street fighter
I ever heard. In any arcade adaptation or even on 16 bit
systems, Ryu and Ken's Hadoken and Shoryuken came out
crystal clear and deep. In this version they sound like
girls saying it, it really doesn't add the same impact when
you hear it like this. The music from the arcade was great
and so was every other version this one seemed a bit
lacking. The introduction music is great and sound just like
the arcade, one could only wish the whole game sounded this good.
Game Play
This game is for 1 or 2 players. There is a story mode and a
vs. mode. Some characters from the arcade's are missing like
Akuma and Blade. Blanka was added in this one though, which
still doesn't make up for it. The story mode follows the way
you fought the characters in the movie. The vs. mode is you
against a friend. All the Street Fighter moves from Super
Street Fighter 2 Turbo are here. Really when you think about
it all this is Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo with better
graphics. Super Moves are here as well which I didn't
particularly care for. The difficulty is Adjustable, which
is a good thing. There is a save feature as well.
Overall 7 out of 10
This game had a few good points left in it. I mean overall
it still is street fighter, and it still is fun. Only
die-hard Street Fighter fans will find major faults in this
one. Really the Arcade one was spectacular, this one failed
to give us what we were looking for from a 32 bit system.
Only fans that must have every game in this series will
appreciate this one.
