Reviewed by Shinnokxz The following few paragraphs are discriptions of the main characters... As read from the Manual. Elliot Elliot is playing basketball with his classmates. Some of the older kids from school show up and challenge Elliot and his friends to a game. A teammate passes long to Elliot, who is just a few feet from the net, but the star player on the other team steals the ball. A long pass downcourt and a slam dunk finishes the day. Elliot walks home, alone. After a half day of depression, Elliot drifts into an awkward sleep. Where he meets a creature named NiGHTS. They help her kill of a species of madman from the dreaming world. Claris Today is Claris' chance to show her family she has stage talent. The stageflight flares on, and her heart starts racing. The directors are out there, watching. Claris approaches the microphone, but something's not right. A small voice inside tells her that everyone will laugh. A few seconds pass, and the voice grown louder. No longer able bear it, Claris Runs off the stage. She then runs into her room, sob's on her bed, and falls into a driftful sleep. In her sleep she also meets a creature named NiGHTS, the three, Elliot, Claris, and NiGHTS fight the madman in the dreaming world. NiGHTS In Claris and Elliot dreams, they have seen NiGHTS, a being capable of flying freely through the sky and performing the trickiest of aerial acrobatics. But what is NiGHTS? A Creature? A memory? Whatever he, or she is, NiGHTS plays an important role in the upcmong battle with the evil madman, Wizeman. 'Nights' was released in 1996, Saturns best year. It revolutionized gaming, not only was it the first ever Home console game to support the Analog, it was an idea only Sega could produce. Elliot and Claris venture into the world of dreams with there friend, NiGHTS. There, they try to collect Blue Gem cystal balls in order to defeat evil monsters and conquer there dreams back. Wizeman, the lunitic man who is raising hell in ordinary human beings Dreams, makes robots, bosses, and other baddies for Claris, Elliot, and NiGHTS to kill. Graphics: 10/10 The graphics in this game is utterly breath-taking. Though a but gritty. NiGHTS enviroment is also new to the gaming world, huge levels (or worlds) that are in the dreams of Claris and Elliot. While you take the role of Claris or Elliot, you can move freely in this huge 3-D world. While summoning and being NiGHTS, you are put onto 'Five tracks' in oreder to collect blue gems, collect point and kill the bad guys. Now don't take me wrong, being on a 'track' isn't bad at all, once you get the hang of the controls, this will be a fun game to have bought. Well anyways, back to graphics. The characters (Claris and Elliot) are actually a little bit blocky, but for some reason, NiGHTS looks wonderfully animated. The worlds, are huge, with dips, canyons, snow, trains, and more, play a fantastic part in this games creativity. Sound/Music: 8/10 The music in this game is tuned very nicely, some of the Songs are quite catchy. Though the sound effects sound like something of of 'Mortal Kombat' for the Sega Genesis. They involve 'Zing, boom, and Zap!' and other mediocre comic sounds. Though only thing that really keeps the Audio compartment from a lower score is the music. And possibly makes this game a '9' and not a 10. Gameplay: 10/10 Though when you start out the game seems frushtrating. Once you have read and understood the story, this game is actually quite addicitive. When you start the game, you'll be offered to input your name, to save for records. Then you will be able to access the options/sound menu's . Change if you wish. Then when you get to the character select screen, you will see Claris and Elliot pop-up in there nice 3-D models. Once you select a character of your choice, you then select a course. If you had barely bought this game, then you would only be able to access one course, and that 'silver Gardens'. Once you select the course, you come upon a brief loading session (may I add that there is hardly ever any loading scenes), you come into a huge world. You take your first step and a bunch of darned little birds still all of your 'Lives' from there, you have to summon NiGHTS, gain all of you 'Lifes' back. And defeat the boss at the end of the level. Once you have started to get the hang of it, the game is quite fun. There is some noticeable slow-down, but now enough to lower the score. The control, if you have the Analog Saturn pad, is terrific, but using the normal Saturn gaming pad isn't much of a difference. Final Word... This is an swesome RPG/adventure game. You will not see it at any online store or pawn shop for atmost 10 Dollars. It takes gettiing used to at first, but once you have the controls and story nailed down, you'll have a blast. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that there is also a 2-Player game unlocked once you beat 'Reada' a male version of NiGHTS, but it is one of Wizemans creations. Overall: 9 out of 10
