Reviewed by Shinnokxz 'Daytona USA' was realeased in 1996 with the launch of the Sega Saturn. Sega's counter-part, Daytons USA for the Arcade. Sega thought it would take a crack at making it home, so they gathered up there AM2 team and hit the works. MODES: 'saturn Mode': Saturn Mode was just some advertising scam Sega did to make people but they game. There absolutley nothing different from this to the Arcade Mode, Though one thing, you don't get a 'Rolling Start'. Overall score for Saturn Mode: 5/10 ---------------- 'Arcade Mode' Arcade Mode includes features the Arcade counter-part had. 'Rolling Starts' Which is when you start the race, you are allready going at allmost-top speeds. It also features some of the old backgrounds as the Arcade... Anything new would be in Saturn Mode, and there was nothing new... Overall score for Arcade mode: 6/10 ---------------- 'Rankings' Possibly the only fun Factor of the game, beating your own (or friends) times in any of the three tracks. Nothin' much to really say here though. Overall score for Rankings mode: 8/10 ----------------- Graphics: 6/10 Lets start off with the cars, the cars look a but gritty and blocky. But the framerates per second is near 60. Thats OK for a Saturn Game. The background slook worse though. They seem to have annual pop-up here and there. And the Tree and other objects of the sort are very un-life like. There are about 3 Camea angles to choose from, one being in-fornt of the car, most racer fans prefer this way, and it effects nothing in the games play. The other angel is slightly above the car, it also hase no real change in the game play. The third is the top view, which skips some frames and tends to get glitchy. Sound/Music: 4/10 Let's start off with the sound. The cars motor effect is allright, but tends to get over-used, the sound of the crashes are a bit out of-line. I'd think if you would flip over once and land on your side it would cause *some* windows to crash. If anyone should like the music to this game. They should be drug out into the street and shot. This music is TERRIBLE. I emphanize 'terrible'. You probably all of heard it. When you go to the arcade with this game, you here that 'Du du du du du du du du du du... DayTONAAAAAAAAAA.... DAYTONA, LET's GO AWAY, let's go away.... ' yes this over-used lyric and plenty more come from the track of this game. Gameplay 7/10 Let's say you start off with 'Arcade mode' You choose your Car (which there only three of manual and Automatic) then you choose in between a Beginner course, with 8 laps, and Intermediate course with 4 laps, and a pro course with 2 laps. Lets just say you choose 'beginner'. OK, after the loading wait, you come onto the creen with you driving down the course and some annoying guy screaming 'Rolling STAAAAAART' Then wehn you cross the starting line, the race begins, usually you start in 27'th (last) place. And you go from there. Your thinking by now, 'Wow the graphics in this game Suck, and that music is annoying. ' You keep on going finding out the steering is pretty good. It's too easy to round corners, but some corners, you steering don't cut it and you run into the fence and flip over side-ways. By now you should be in 8-18'th place. Keep going. By now, the pit stop bug can get you. The pit stop bug is something where you race close (but not in) the pit-stop ramp. The pit-stop will think you are trying to get your car fixed, but really you just travelled a bit close to it. It will turn you and make you plunge into last place. By now you fianlly finish the race and put in a good game. Controls: 6/10 Well the controls are good at-most. It's easy to turn so thats not a real trouble. The Gas button is 'C' which is in a good spot. and Brake is 'X' And the camera shifting buttons are the 'L' and 'R' buttons. Easy and responsive. Not much to say here. Final Word... It would of been better with more options and replayibility. The choices are low, and the graphics and sound are terrible. Save your money for Daytona USA: Championsip Circuit... I heard thats OK... Overall: 5 out of 10
