Virtua Fighter 3tb
Reviewed by Jeremy Peeples
Virtua Fighter 3tb was released in October 1999 for the Sega
Dreamcast. Many wondered if this game would still be a hit,
after all, Sould Calibur had just been released and took the
gaming world by storm, unfortunately, the game didn't do as
well, sales wise, as expected, most of this was attibuted to Soul Calibur.
Graphics-9/10- The backrounds look excellent, full of
vibrant color and movement, the characters look excellent
with the exception of the knees and shoulders of some
characters. The animation is excellent and continues the
tradition of wonderful animation for the series.
Sound-7/10- The in-game music is forgettable, it's OK but it
doesn't live up to the high quality of the other games in
the series (mainly VF2). The sound effects are excellent
though, almost all of them fit the 0n-screen action, the
only notable exception being the 'whoosh' sound of some of
the game's kicks.
Control-10/10- Like the other games in the series the
control is perfect. Most of the moves can be done with a
relative amount of ease. Those that can't are usually
smaller, more intricate fighting moves. Overall, perfect,
everything is responsive.
Gameplay-7/10- This game adds 2 new characters, Aoi and Taka
Arashi. It also adds a Versus Mode (miissing in the Japanese
game) and a Team Battle mode, unfortunately, this mode is
basically the same one in the Saturn version of VF2, but at
least it's in there.
Presentation-7/10- The title and menu screens are basic but
they serve their purpose. The overall look of the menus is
plain, but that doesn't matter much, the game is what really
matters. By the way the CG movies in the game (History and
the Ending movies) are excellent, they both contain fluid
animation and further the interest in the game. Overall,
great, everything looks like it belongs in a VF game.
Overall-8/10- I've always loved the VF series and this game
is a worhy addition to the series. The game combines great
graphics, good sound, perfect control, and classic gameplay
to make an amazing, unforgettable game that deserves to be
played by all fighting fans.
Buy or Rent?-Buy- This game combines great graphics, good
music, and wonderful control to make one of the best
fighting games ever created. If you are a fan of fighting
games, buy this game, you won't regret it.
