Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Reviewed by Shinnokxz
Tony Hawk Pro Skater was originaly released for the PSX. I
have to admit I only rented it because of it's looks and all
of the hype it has gotten. Any normal skater will simply
love this game. With some of the realistic moves and
gameplay ever featured in a Skating videogame. There is
about 20 simple moves and grinds to do wuth every character.
And about 5 Special moves to each character.
Some of the improvements are easy to tell. There is vetter
sound (Not a WHOLE lot better though), and obviously, being
on a 128-bit engine, better graphics. The controls aren't
that tough as you mgith think they are. I found no problem
with them, and everything is pretty responive.
Good Points About The Game...
This game is easily one of the best skating games that will
ever grace the gaming world. I think it's about teh first
ever skating game that has missions (in a way) for you to
complete. These missions are pretty easy at first, but seem
to get tougher once you progress through the game. Such as
you have to grind a certain ammout of objects in order to
gain a 'Tape'. The graphics in this game are anything
short then amazing. They're not blurry like in the N64
version, and they're not choppy like in the PSX one. You can
easily tell what everything is through it's incredible
ammount of deatail. The sound and music is also pretty good.
The sounds cool, but the msusic gets overplayed. The
gameplay will get you going and going. Either you can start
a season mode, or you can just try to beat your friends
scores on levels. The controls aren't as bad as you may
think coming from a fast-paced DC game.
Bad Points About The Game...
This version seems to not add anything new in it. Except for
the difference in between graphics and sound, this game is
pretty much a mirror copy of the PSX version. This version
ads no new modes or gameplay options at all. Like I said
earlier, the games music is pretty good, but when your just
practicing, and the same over-used songs get used over and
over and over again, you'll be thankful theres a music turn
off in the pause screen. But this game really has nothing
bad about it except for those two minor flaws.
Graphics: 10/10
OUTSTANDING!
hese graphics are nothing short of breathe taking. Obviously
MUCH better than PSX and N64's . The facial details (When you
have the angel to see them), look outstanding. And the
skating parks and other things have so much atmosphere in
them, and they look so... *real*. The chacacters and boards
look awesome too. Words do not describe a game so.... GREAT!
Sound/Music: 8/10
Sound: 8/10
The sound in this game is great atleast, but with a few
flaws. They are all pretty much there, but they are very
often over-used, and get over-used, ecialy when you start
out and you constantly take a dive, and you hear the same
'Uh!' everytime. The skating sounds are good though, and
seem to not be that annoying though.
Music: 7/10
The music i nthis game is pretty cool, but with some bad
flaws. Instead of there being background music, there has to
be a continuous loop through a CD, but you can't skip songs
though :). The same music gets over-played in the practice
mode for new-comers, and leaves a bad taste in they're mouth
throughout they're history with the game.
Gameplay: 10/10
Could this game be the best Skate Game So Far? Yes. FCould
it be the best that will ever be? Maybe. If Tony Hawk Pro
Skater 2 is a hit ;) In this game, you just don't skate for
fun, you do missions, getting secret characters and tapes
and courses. Some courses has cool secret ways for you to
get points. When you get points, they ad them to your high
scores stats, so you can try to challenge your self anytime.
And, it's one of the courses objectives. Get a certain
ammoutn of points. The gameplay will only frushtrate you at
first, when you just start learning what each button does,
and how to do the grinds or something liek that. If you
start out in the Warehouse, you will be trained easily.
Probably one of the funest courses in the game, and it has
alot of grinding bars, and a half pipe for you to practice.
Other places also has these. The controls are easy, Y is to
grind or do a hand plant, A is to pick up speed, and the
other buttons are just for moves and other tricks.
Fortunatly you can yuse the analog, which is also a good
point about the game. It takes up hardly any memory space,
and it's quick to save. This game is easily one of the best
skaters that has been released or ever will be released.
Final Word...
This game is among the best. Rent it for sure, and if you
want to straight buy it, then go ahead, you won't be un-satisfied.
