Reviewed by Nathan Tsui This game is so real it's scary. A friend of mine said, and I quote, 'I don't like NFL 2K. I feel like I'm messing with reality. ' HehÉwell, let's just say that this is the only sports game my dad has ever been impressed with. If you know my dad, you'll know how big of a compliment that is. If you like sports games, this is a must-buy. GRAPHICS: 10 These are absolutely the BEST when it comes to console and PC sports games. There are over 1600 motion-captured animations, so everything looks like it should. The QB throws off one leg when on the run. A badly aimed tackle causes the guy to stumble. Players' jerseys get muddy, and you can even see their breath on cold days! On top of that, there are even those retarded cameramen and such on the sidelines. SOUND: 9 The sound FX are normal. What stands out is the commentary. They're not big-name dorks like Madden; they're voice actors. It's not jerky or slow like other games, it really sounds on-the-fly. Like after a big play you can hear the commentators chattering about what a great runner the guy is or what an awesome throw the QB made. It adds so much to the realism of the game. CONTROL: 9 The control is really tight and responsive. All the buttons are easy to memorize; you'll have it after one game. If not, there's always practice mode. The best thing is the real-life physics engine in the game. Depending on where, how and when you tackle a guy, your target responds accordingly. If you hit him high and behind, he'll stumble. Hit him low and short and he'll trip. Another great feature is Maximum Passing, which allows you to lead your receiver in any direction to make sure the defense doesn't have a chance. REPLAY VALUE: 8 Well, it's about as much as a sports game can have. You can go head-to-head or together with up to three of your friends. You can make your own plays, players, teams, etcÉ You can also play a season, or go straight to the play-offs. The bad thing is that it takes up 191 blocks of your VMU to save. In other words, basically the whole thing, unless you can find a Dreamcast save that's under 9 blocks. House of the Dead 2, anyone? OVERALL: 9 out of 10 Like I said, this is a total must-buy for sports-game fans. Excellent graphics, awesome commentary, a real-life physics engine to die for. Why aren't you going out to buy it yet? HUH?!
