I researched having my trackball replaced in NYC and it was about $100. The other alternative was buying a new blackberry $200+.
It is so easy to remove the old trackball and replace with this part; literally two pieces. It is like having a new phone.

I needed a replacement trackball unit for my blackberry pearl (despite my best efforts to clean it the ball still was having trouble). I was glad to see someone selling a replacement unit. The unit arrived quickly and completely assembled. I just had to pop the old one out and snap the new one in (these instructions are located all over the net, just google it and you'll get plenty of instructions). I would recomend this to anyone with a problem trackball on their blackberry (which means almost everyone with a trackball on their blackberry).

My trackball on my 8100 pearl stopped scrolling up. I tried pulling it out and cleaning it, to no avail. I was a little suspicious whether this would fix the problem, but it did. It looks and fits just like OEM. It was pretty easy to install: just pry under the silver ring around the trackball, and the ring pops out. Then pry the smaller silver ring out, and then pop the trackball assembly out and pop the new one in. Not for those that are very technologically faint of heart -- but no harder than, say, adding memory to a computer. Google "blackberry trackball" and people have picture tutorials. I am just glad I did not have to get a whole new blackberry to fix the problem.
