Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Disappointing
This is not Paper Mario. It's Super Mario from the old NES redone in the Paper Mario theme. Everything I loved about Paper Mario--the turn-based attacks, the grid-like map where you can wander to your heart's content (a la "Dry, Dry Desert), the familiar faces--not in this game. Instead, it's 2D in a weird world with art deco characters. The only venture you have into wandering 3D is on a short timer and takes HP if you linger too long (like 15 seconds). No FP in this version. Just think NES and jump around on Goomba heads.

Using the Wii remote sideways was irritating. I kept wishing I could use my old Game Cube controller instead. At least it had more buttons if Nintendo insists on virtually ignoring the Wii remote and using it as a Classic controller for this game anyway.

I am very disappointed in this version. I should have just bought Galaxy and not wasted the money on something I'll have to find a kid to give this to. The original Paper Mario is a downloadable Console Game for Wii. I'll just replay the old one to soothe my buyer's remorse.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This 47 yr old father loves this game
My 7 yr old and I play this a lot together. It's a difficult game, but not too hard. It's really engrossing. Totally our favorite game on the Wii.

People complain about the story being slow, and I tend to agree. However, it's not too bad, and there are so many other things which are fun about the game.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Super Fun Mario!
I am a Super Mario fan ever since Super Mario Bros came out and I'm always looking for something to come close to play. I have a Wii and an N64 system (used to have Gamecube but don't need it with the Wii). I bought Super Paper Mario because I needed something to play but nothing new was available (Galaxy wasn't out yet). I thought it looked dumb and was thinking twice before I opened it. I hated the ongoing dialogue and the neverending name calling between players but once I got to playing I was addicted. I like to play games that make me want to play for hours and then leave me wanting more once I quit playing and this one does that. This game has lots of secrets and endless hours of play. I gave it a 5 because I don't think the dialogue and the sarcastic remarks take a star away from it. Now I just wish Nintendo would come out with a Banjo Kazooie 3.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A cute game weighed down by a...very...very...slow...sto....ry!
As much as I enjoyed Super Paper Mario, I just wasn't impressed by any part of it. It's a cute Mario game (as they all are) but I never felt like I was really playing an RPG and the endless dialogue bubbles really slow the game down.

The levels are colorful and bright and look absolutely gorgeous. The music is pleasant enough but the trademark Mario theme barely gets a mention. As for the gameplay, well...it's standard Mario platform stuff with the new addition of flipping to 3D and some unique abilities with the Wii controller. It's nothing to write home about.

For 20 hours I stuck with this game and by the bitter end I felt like I could have used that time to do something better. Honestly nothing in this game impresses and if I didn't have a photographic memory I'd be completely forgetting about it in a week. If that makes any sense.

So...very...very...slow. I don't like video games like this. If I wanted to read a book I'd read one. In the end, it's the endless dialogue that cripples SPM.

Pros:

Very nice graphics.
Incredibly cute.
Easy to control.
Giant Mario from NSMB returns (though it's equally as brief and pointless)

Cons:

Cut-scenes take FOREVER!
Way, way, waaaaaaay too much dialogue.
Flipside missions are very boring.
Gets tedious and repetitive about halfway through.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not a fun game
Don't buy this game. Too much BS reading. I bought this for my 11 years old son and he didn't like it. He got stuck after crossing the first bridge. The game is now sitting there collecting dust!
