Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Bio"shocked"
I will honestly say I did not expect Bioshock to be as good as it turned out to be. I have completed my 4th play-through before deciding to write a review on it.

Pros:
-The gameplay was pretty smooth. Like most games you can adjust the sensitivity of the control sticks, but in addition you have the option to "unlock framerate" which degrades the graphics slightly but offsets it with seamless gameplay. I played all the way through with the option on and off. Personally I prefer the option on and will take the slightly less then average graphics.
-The story was filled with twists and turns and hidden agendas. The first playthrough was thoroughly enjoyable as I was constantly surprised by the revelations you uncover along the way.
-The voice acting was superb. The game takes place in the 50s era and I really got a sense of authenticity from some of the lingo that was used.
-Adding on to the 50s authenticity, I must say I loved the music that often filled the levels coming from record players and jukeboxes. I don't know if the music was actual songs from that era or just songs they made up for the game that had the same sound. Either way it was enchanting.
-Level design was above average. Each area was a little more complex than the last and followed a completely different map. The map itself was also very easy to understand and there was always the handy-dandy quest arrow to help out.

Cons:
-The weapon and power selection radials (activated by holding either the right or left shoulder button) was sticky and not very responsive. Basically I found myself more often then not trying to switch weapon/ability and coming up with the wrong one. The only fix to this was to take extra time and be double sure the right was was selected before releasing the button.
-The graphics weren't horrible but they weren't the best I've seen. The water effects were fairly realistic. The enemy design had some variation but as with most games after a while they all start to look the same.
-Replay value is average. I'd say at the most worth playing 2 times for the alternate ending. I did play it through 4 times. Once for each difficulty and one time for the alternate ending and trying to unlock some extra achievements.

Overall I loved the game. If for nothing else than the gameplay and story. But for the small things I give it a 4 out of 5.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Bioshock review
The game was intensely addicting in the first 2 playthroughs. However, there is no multiplayer option, so really the only reasons to play it again is for the achievements and the alternative endings. Definitely worth it to try it out.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Loved it!
Just my kind of game! I played 4 times in a row and still wanted to play more. I can't wait for Bioshock 2!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Stunning
Bioshock is a gem among gems. The XBox 360 has a slew of awesome games, but I found Bioshock to really reach a new level in gameplay, atmosphere and graphics.

I recommend playing it on a big screen TV in HD (if you have access to one, of course!), with the lights off. You'll be glad you did.

PROS: Engaging gameplay, stunning graphics, and an atmosphere that really sucks you in deep.

CONS: I can't play it when my kids are in the area.

OVERALL: Probably the best single player game I've played on any platform.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Short but Sweet

Bioshock is one of the best games I have played this year. With awesome graphics, well-placed controls, gripping storyline, and intense twists, this game has it all.

The graphics in Bioshock are truly captivating, and the simple controls add to the experience. You really feel like you are in the underwater city of Rapture. The attention to detail, from papers on the floor that fell off a desk, to small signs of struggle and rebellion from insane inhabitants, makes it easy to forget you are playing a game. The controls are nicely laid out, being second nature after just a few minutes. You don't have to constantly try to remember how to change your plasmid; it is soon just a reflex, so you are truly reacting in the moment instead of struggling with your controller.

I was instantly drawn in by the fascinating storyline. The emotions are intense taking you from terrified, to relieved, to horrified, to furious as you battle your way through Rapture. The twists in the plot are unexpected and keep you on your toes as you desperately try to figure out your role in it all. Between killing crazy splicers, sneaking around Big Daddies, and navigating your way through the maze that is Rapture, there is never a dull moment to be had.

The only negative thing I have to say about Bioshock is that it was too short. It left me begging for more, taking me only about twenty-two hours to go through once. But, this game is too much fun to only play one time, so there's easily forty hours of game play. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes killing lunatic splicers, chasing power-hungry madmen, and dealing with the giant guardian Big Daddies in the form of an occasionally frightening first person shooter. To reach this games full potential, be sure to play in the dark. You might just have trouble sleeping.
