Santa was good to us! Everyone from age 7 through adult has had a fantastic time playing the game. Since it is a game for 4 players, this is a family bonding game. When the kids' friends (starting at age 5) are over and playing Wii, they also have fun. In fact, I've never seen anyone that did not enjoy this game together or alone.

First, I have to say that I have never owned an earlier game from the Mario Party series, so I have nothing to compare this one to. Second, we bought this game primarily for multi-player use because we have four kids (ranges 8 - 14) and we needed some more games for our new Wii that weren't just the single-player games like Guitar Hero, Super Mario Galaxy, etc. I was mildly worried about this one based on the widely varied reviews, but it has turned out to be one of my family's favorites!
I recently overheard my eleven year old (who usually prefers games like Guitar Hero, Madden NFL, and all the adventure games) telling someone that his favorite game is Mario Party 8. Go figure....
My husband enjoys this game, too, which surprises me considering that the outcome of the game each time we play is based entirely upon chance and luck rather than skill, but we approach this game the way we do many of the board games we play that require little to no skill. It's a light-hearted game--a PARTY game--a great one that has been tons of fun, at least for us!
I definitely recommend this game if:
--you have several who need to play at once (it's especially great for kids), and
--if you don't have a lot of predetermined criteria that you expect this game to meet.

I am an "old school" Mario fan from back in the early days - not a hardcore Mario fan. I have never played any of the "party" games, but I purchased Mario Party 8 for my daughter's Wii hoping it would be a lot like Super Mario Brothers from days gone by. It is not. If you are an adult hoping to recreate your early nintendo days with a Super Mario Bros-like experience ... keep looking. I gave it 4 stars overall because my daughter loves it. However, I have to say that it is REALLY boring - no skill required at all! It took us over 3 minutes to set us up for a game, and less than 1 minute to play a game! Stupid!! I was extremely disappointed.

We got the kids a Wii for Christmas, and out of 6 games they now have, this is way and above their favorite. Our kids are 8 & 6 and we love playing with them. Just make sure you have the extra controllers needed.

Never really understood the hype about the Wii until I played. So much fun. With all the games that the kids have, Mario Party 8 is played most often (edging just barely ahead of Pokemon Battle Revolution). Lots of variety, kids and adults alike can play. And in some games you can either use your Mii or a classic Mario Bros. character, your choice. I highly recommend this game. We just need two more controllers so that all four of us can play at once.
