You know, it's amazing that in this day and age, you can have a game with spectacular graphics and unbelievable surround sound and the game is just.... blah.
I mean, graphically Lost Planet is pretty nice. Beautiful, actually. There are some boss battles that are pretty astounding in how they are presented. There's one moment at the very beginning where a creature named Green Eye appears and the size of this thing is enough to make your jaw drop. There's also another moment when you're running across an open field getting chased by this monstrous worm thing that is an experience on its own. This is definitely a game that benefits from being played on an HDTV setup with surround sound.
But then the story kicks in and you can't deny that it makes very little sense, not to mention the fact that the hero of the story is really not an interesting character to begin with. The gameplay itself is a bit repetitive and really, the game just amounts to little more than eye and ear candy. Even when you're not on foot and riding around in the mechs, it just doesn't add up to any memorable experience.
The online portion of the game isn't enough to make you want to play it a lot, especially with games like Gears of War and Rainbow Six: Vegas out there. It's kind of stale and just not that interesting.
I'm really down the middle on this game. I'd say that it's worth a rental and then if you like it, get it. I wouldn't call this an outright purchase as it just didn't grab me the way I would've expected it to.

This game is great, from the start you are tossed in to a fast paced action packed thrill ride. Yes this game does have some fairly difficult parts in it but that just makes it all the sweeter once you beat that nasty boss at the end of a mission. The graphics are superb and the gameplay is top notch. This game was worth every penny I payed for it.

This game just feels kind of boring and repetitive to me. I forced myself to keep playing it, but after getting through a few levels, I gave up. Having just completed Rainbow Six: Vegas and Gears of War, this game doesn't even come close to those two. One positive, as stated in some other reviews here, is the graphics are good, and I didn't find the thermal energy to be as much of a detraction as some people did. I just didn't find myself unable to put the controller down as with other shooter games.

This game is ok, it has awesome graphics. I agree with some people saying the thermal energy is a waste because you constantly have to get those little red things and if you run out you die, it makes no sence, the guy that you play with runs slow which another dude said, but its a challenge the bosses are pretty hard but not all of them, but i hate fighting the bosses because half the time i lose all of my thermal energy but i dont really recommend it but, you can buy it if you want...

Lost Planet seemed to be at first another great next-gen game for the 360. Maybe you could've even put it in the lineup with games out like gears of war and rainbow six vegas. But sadly, with games like those released, Lost Planet doesnt compare.
Lost Planet is a third person shooter (your camera angle is behind the main character, unlike FPS) and with not to many 3rdPS's out right now, you can only really compare it to gears of war and splinter cell:double agent, which, like said, cannot be compared. The graphics although are outstanding. The explosion effects are just awesome. I could blow those barrels up all day just to see the fire. Really good effects with graphics and sound. Gameplay is ok. You feel like you run really slow, kinda like you have weights tide to your ankles. Also those little red things you need to get to keep warm and not die(sorry, forgot what they're called), it a cool new add-in thats gives more challenge, but at the same time, can be very annoying when fighting a boss and you die just because you couldnt find the little red things. Then agian, the boss fights are done very well. Its a good challenge, but pretty fun at the same time. The story is interesting, yet kind of confusing for some people. I dont like giving stuff like that away though, so find out yourself :). But honestly it just isnt that fun when you have such better shooter games out there to play. I have not played this online, so maybe there is a difference online, but still, i wouldn't waste my money. It is worth a rent i would say, but just like I've said about other "so-so" games, not worth $60. you can save that money for gasoline.
