Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Superstar Mario Bros are at it again!

Well, I was just coming home from my last day at the Art Institute of California in San Francisco when I realized my younger brother got a new Game Boy Advance. When I asked him what he was playing, he answered, "Mario & Luigi." Now, I didn't know much about the game itself, but when I heard it was an RPG, I decided I'd give it a try. After all, the other Mario games I'd played were all in the Action/Adventure genre (with the exception of the Smash Bros. series).

Let me just be direct: Mario & Luigi is a great Mario RPG game. It mixes in old school Mario goodness with a twist. Let me also say that this is the only Mario RPG game I've played so far (I don't really play video games as much as I used to), so I'm even more impressed.

The story starts out simple: Some evil sorceress called Cackletta steals Princess Peach's voice and replaces it with vocabulary that explodes (literally). Naturally, Mario comes to the rescue, dragging along his reluctant brother Luigi. Bowser, who wanted to do the usual kidnapping, decides to lend a hand to the bros. (Knowing that his castle would be destroyed if he stole Peach in this state). And thus, your adventure begins. As you play through the story, prepare for some major laughs - you'll meet zany characters and deal with hilarious bosses, ranging from a rotound swinder to a giant soda soldier.

The gameplay itself is well done. You control both Mario Bros., and thus you must work together to finish the game. Each Bro has his own unique techniques to help the other in times of need (i.e. Mario can spin while carrying Luigi to cross large gaps). Of course, an RPG ins't and RPG without enemies, and there are tons of 'em in this game. The battle system is typical: you take turns. Each Bro starts with the standard Jump attack, and eventually they can wield more powerful weapons. When the going gets tough, the Bros. can work together to use "Bros. Attacks": super moves that can inflict major damage if timed well. When the enemy attacks, you can dodge or counterattack (a nice touch, I might add).

The game starts out easy, but gradually it gets tough, with tons of puzzles and mini-games waiting to be solved. If you are not the patient type of person, then this ain't the game for you, sir. There are tons of bosses, each of which has an attack pattern and (sometimes) a weakness. Some are easy and and some are challenging, but then, is that not the deal with any video game?

The sound was what impressed me most. The music is a mix of old school Mario tunes with new, upbeat ones. The voices: I don't know how the developers did it, but just hearing actual voices in the game...it's commendable. For a GBA game, that is. The game sounds pretty good with headphones, too.

Overall, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is a great Mario RPG game. I'd recommend it to anyone who's patient. Impatience'll get you nowhere in this.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An Absolutely Cracking RPG from Nintendo
RPG's. Whoever made the first one must have been a genius, 'cos they are great games. Providing that there are fun to play. Mario and Luigi Superstar saga? An excellent game.
Why? Because it has good graphics, even for the Gameboy Advance, it has all the qualities a good RPG should have, great toe-tapping music all the way, and everybody's favourite Italian plumbers thrown into the mix. Yes, for once Luigi's not sitting on his ass, at home. He's accompanying Mario on this quest (to recover Princess Peach's voice :s) and it's truly amazing. enter battle by running up to your opponent, or by bouncing on them, and you're immeadiately transported to a screen where the battle commences. Why not do a Mario jump? How about make Luigi whack that bloody great monster with a hammer? Later on in the quest you'll learn new moves, and brother moves where the pair of you do some graceful stunt and attack together. As all good RPG's should have some kind of equipment, the two borthers cam head over to a shop and nab a new pair of dungarees (:S) or new badges to make their battles easier. Fighting enemies gets you items (mostly the special mushroom) and sometimes new clothes, but mostly beans. Beans are excellent grind 'em up and make up a coffee, and Mario or Luigi will improve their stats, yep, like an RPG, both Mario and Luigi grow levels, quite fun actually for the intellectual to carefull balance speed with power, and defense with health.
The actual game is great. It sees you heading over to place with riduculous names, such as Hoohoo mountain, or the Chucklehuck Woods (for Chuckcola :P), underwater, the woohoo university, and plenty of Zelda- like dungeons, require plenty of brainpower for you to get through (plus you can use the two brothers different skills to get through). There's plenty of points where you'll laugh your guts out, and there's so many mini-quests, it would take years to list all of them.
It's almost a year old, but if you haven't sampled this RPG, I recommened you get it now!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wistful of Paper Mario but Five Times Funnier
This is probably the best Mario game for the GBA. The foremost reason that sticks out in my mind is its comedy. The main villan is the funniest I've ever seen. Many magazines polled that he is the "Best New Villian" due to his ludicrous dialog. If you played Paper Mario the battle system is about the same. For those who diddn't, it is a turn baised style but with more interaction baised on reflex allowing you to damage the enemy even when you are on the defencive. Everything in the game was perfect and the main reason I play it over and over is simple: It is a good game.
