For all you people who say its too easy or you block too many shots why dont yall adjust the gameplay settings. Because when i play it is the best basketball game out there forget ESPN.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - THIS GAME IS AWSEOME!
This game is absolutly the best basketball game to ever hit the market. This game is so cool. The graphics are amazing, the sound is great, and the gameplay is aweseome. The addition of the free style player control is the best innovation in video game basketball history. Remember the days when you would be dribbling down the court, pull up for a jumper and get stuffed by a giant in the middle? Well not anymore! Free style allows you to change your shot in mid air, or spin, or crossover dribble ,or hold the ball behind your back, or pump fake, or just down right school the opposing team. It also helps alot on defense as well The game plays just like real basketball. My only beef is that the game could have been a little deeper in the dynasty mode like Madden 2004. Like when you prepare to draft a player, their name just shows up on a list with their position, no scouting or anything! Oh well. The game is still a blast but the opposing owners could be a little more intellegent. I mean come on, I traded Tony Delk and some other guy for LeBron James(not that I have a problem with having LeBron or anything) but it's just kind of silly. Whatever, JUST BUY THIS GAME!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Pretty good
I am only 12 and don't know everything but I think that you and I both know that you should not be able to block 17 blocks with Michael Finley. He is only 6'7"!!! Dynasty mode is pretty deep but the fantasy draft which is great in Madden is kind of hard to use. 1 on 1 mode is great to use for polishing up your skills along with 1 player mode which is practicing with 1 player alone in the gym. To be honest my favorite mode is Play Now. I would recommend renting this before buying it unless you loved the previous versions. Overall pretty good but could use some changes.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Decent but still needs work!
NBA Live 2004 is much better than last year's version and is overall more fun to play. Defense, which was almost completely left out of NBA Live 2003, plays a big part of this year's version, especially when playing against the computer or a friend. However, online play is still pretty much an arcade-like, run-and-gun shootout. The normal game has plenty of gameplay options like adding player fatigue, increasing the length of the quarters, and changing your defensive and offensive strategies. However, when playing online, the vast majority of these options are taken away. Quarters are always 5 minutes long, fatigue is turned off, and you can't change any of your playcalling strategies. If none of the pre-set defensive or offensive plays are working against your online opponent, too bad! You just bite the bullett and deal with it because there is no way to change it. In fact, the only gameplay option that you truly have control over is the camera angle. Strangely, these are all gameplay options that WERE offered in last years NBA Live 2003.
EA Sports seemed to put a lot of effort into certain areas of the game to make it more of a basketball simulation experience but the lack of these online options still keeps the game at a very arcade-like pace. Though defense, for the most part, has been ramped up, it doesn't go beyond the interior. Even decent jump shooters look like superstars because defensive pressure does nothing to disrupt shots from the perimeter. Shooting much better percentage from the 3-point arc than from inside the painted area is a regular occurence when it should, of course, be the other way around. As a matter of fact, it is quite common to win an online game by taking almost nothing but 3-pointers, a strategy that would be SUICIDE for most real-life NBA teams! All this does is add to the dissapointment with the online play for fans of real simulation play.
Overall, NBA Live 2004 is definitely an improvement over last year's version but there is still much improvement to be made. It has almost become an annual occurance for EA Sports' NBA Live series to take one step forward in one area but 2 steps back in another. In this case, the online play became the odd-man-out of the rotation.

On a side note:
It's interesting how the sport of football, which is more complex and strategic than basketball, is so accurately portrayed in the Madden series while the NBA Live series is still struggling to find itself even after all these years! Perhaps the development team should just stick with the NBA Street series.
