Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A new direction for me from Pokemon games
First off, I am a 50 year old gamer. I do not like arcade or 2D scrolling types of games so this type of game is my favorite. I started with Pokemon and Zelda games and then I discovered Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, and Golden Sun. Some reviewers don't like the extensive dialogue, but I find something will be said to give me a clue what I need to do next and add furthur to the story. Patience is a virtue.

Golden Sun is a challenging game. To be honest I resorted to refering to a walkthrough on numerous occasions with this game. Sometimes because I was stuck, sometimes to see if I had missed any Djinn. The world is large and without the map that came with the original game, I had no idea where to find some of the locations without a walkthrough. I liked this game so much, I started looking for a used copy of Golden Sun The Lost Age before I was half done with it. By the time I had finished Golden Sun I was ready to jump into The Lost Age.

This game reminds me of Tales of Symphonia for GameCube that my son plays except the battles are turn based instead of real time. When you set your characters to do an attack, you have to look at the opposing party and decide which opponent needs to be eliminated first because some monsters do much more damage than others. Are the battles too easy? I don't think so. If you think about what you are doing they are easier though. The final battles were challenging, but not impossible as I have found with PC based RPGs such as Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale II.

I am now playing The Lost Age and feel quite at home with the system and the Psynergy moves the characters can do. I also understand the roles of the Djinn much better now. Golden Sun and The Lost Age are no longer available in stores but used copies can be found at local stores for 15-20 bucks. If this type of game interests you, I would highly recommend it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Simply an amazing RPG...
I first played this game as a recommendation from a friend, and I wish to pass the same thoughts on to everyone else! It's got to be the very best GBA game I will ever play! The plot was spectacular, with only one major con to the main gameplay. There were WAY too many long speeches, and they were WAY too long. But besides that, it's an amazing game.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Looks great but not my thing
Don't get me wrong. I love RPGs and building up custom characters but I don't like them in the 2D world of the GBA. On the PC I have played awesome games like Dungeon Siege, where the RPG element is at it's best but I found Golden Sun to be really slow.

It took ages to get going and there is an unbelievable amount of dialogue in it. But there is no way to skip past it. You will literally be sitting there hitting the button for 10 minutes reading bland word bubbles. Some have given this game a great review but I'm afraid this RPG just didn't do anything for me and I won't be checking out the sequel.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Really good portable RPG
Golden Sun was a nice surprise after i got a few hours into it. It really turned out to be a solid and well made rpg.
However, the intro is slow and i do mean slow.

The introduction is almost an hour long of continuous dialogue.
Im knocking off half a star due to the beginning, and the rest of the games, tedious dialogue. There is a TON of reading to be done in this game and none of it is worthy of a novel...

Another bad part of this game is how easy it is. I went through the entire game without using one healing item, like potions, and such. The synergys and pokemon are way too strong and get you through every battle without a sweat.

Still, this game was lots of fun and had many unique puzzles and situations thanks to its psynergy system. So if youre in need of a fun, well made, and lengthy portable rpg than you dont have to look any further than Golden Sun.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good...but too short
I know they're leaving room for a sequal, but I finished in about a week of real time, and I didn't play that much. Plus, since you're stuck in Lalivero after you beat the final battle, there's no replay value. Although it left me eagerly awaiting the second one, it also left me feeling a little cheated. However, overall, this is an awesome game. The storyline didn't bother me, because the number of sideplots the ever-altruistic Isaac and crew feel the need to indulge in kept things varied and fun. Overall, I highly recommend this game, but if you're getting it, buy Lost Age at the same time, or you'll be really mad when you finish. Me? I'm promising myself Lost Age as a reward after I finish Finals Week, and I'm counting the days.
