Don't get me wrong, I love the GameBoy Advance, but seriously, WHAT WAS NINTENDO THINKING??? What was going through their minds when they decided not to have the GameBoy advance backlit. How would you feel if you bought a cell phone that wasn't backlit and the only way you could get a clear picture was in direct sunlight. I've tried EVERY aftermarket clip on light you can buy but they're not really practical. They are either not bright enough, have horrible glare, or don't light the screen evenly, and the ones that are bright enough are so heavy and bulky your GameBoy is hardly portable. It really annoys the heck out of me!
There is an aftermarket upgrade out there that fixes this problem. It's called the Afterburner and is made by Triton Labs. You must install it inside the GameBoy and it works beautifully. It completely lights up the entire screen with a brilliant, even light. But it's not perfect either. The installation takes about 4 hours and is an EXTREMELY stressful and difficult procedure. I ruined my GameBoy trying to install one.
I suggest buying a GameBoy with an Afterburner pre-installed from a PROFESSIONAL. ...Now I can play my GameBoy in complete darkness and can see every detail. It's awesome. I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!!!

OK here it is the GBA, the most awaited handheld system finally came to America about a year ago. Does it live up to everything? Well, yes and no.
First of all I'm very disappointed in those who give this one star just because the graphics are 16 bit! Ya know that just shows how judgemental gamers can get! Sure the graphics aren't 32-bit, but the PSX started off 16-Bit (I remember that too), and nobody cared! And when did the gaming world go into how much power a console had? How I learned it, it was all about the games!
Anyway, the system has a good selection of games. I just wish that there were more original games rather than just SNES re-release after SNES re-release. Yes, its great Nostalga for the SNES gamer, and it beats paying 80.00 dollars for an old game, but when are we gonna get something new? Actually new!
The system takes two AA batteries and plays old games too. Thats good because that mean you can still buy GBC games and play them too. The only other problem really is that some GBC games (Dragon Warrior III comes to mind) show up very dark on the screen sometimes. Also, Nintendo still refuses to put in a light for the system! Its still worth five stars but I'm so tired of trying to find some decent light to play.
OVERALL:
On the Positive side
+Good selection
+Good SNES memories
+Plays old games
+Put old games in Wide Screen!
+Still colorful
Negative
-Perhaps too much SNES Nostalgia
-When will nintendo ever put a light INSIDE these things
-Many people are still thinking that graphics are everything so of course the fact that its 16-Bit and not 32-bit will turn some people away

This is the best portable game system I have seen to date. We started out with one GBA for my 6 year old son, then my wife got her own, and now its Dad's turn to get one. We all have a "Worm Light" as it is a must for most indoor use. I assume the next version of the GBA will incorporate full backlighting, but I am still completely satisfied with the performance of the GBA overall. I already had rechargeable NiMH AA batteries, and we are getting good use from them, especially since we all use the worm light. The game graphics and speed are great, and highly graphical games like Spiderman are a pleaseure to view and play. The family favorites are still the Mario series games (Kart, World, Bros, etc.) The Prima strategy guides come in real handy, too.
