If you happen to own a Floodlight (clip light for the GBA), you'll know that it chews through batteries like nothing else. It is about the correct brightness for a quality backlight. If you were to add a backlight to the GBA, you would be switching batteries about every 3-4 hours. Without one, you can play for about 15 hours non-stop. So, I'll take it without the backlight. ...it is not that hard to turn on a light in the room you're playing in.
As for the system itself, I am very impressed. The screen is wide and, in a well-lit room, can be seen easily. It has a 32-bit CPU, and is light and portable. There are several great games available for it, but be careful: no system is without its bad games. Make sure you know what you're buying before you buy it.
And one closing comment. Do not buy a backlight that you can install on your own. Taking apart your GBA is illegal, and could potentially ruin it all together. And, as mentioned above, it will eat up your batteries.

We bought this for my almost 4 year old Son for Christmas ...against my better judgement. My Husband insisted my Son would love it.I thought..he's much to young. I must confess my Son not only loves it,he plays it just fine..Out of the many gifts he recieved & already has...Gameboy Advance is his favorite. He carries it everywhere!!! I have never seen any toy that could hold my Son's attention like Gameboy Advance does. All I can say is...Run don't walk this is a must have!!!Not only does my Son love it...My Husband & I bought one for ourselves as well!!!

I got the Game Boy Advance for Christmas. Minutes after I opened it I started playing. A few seconds after I started playing;I noticed the screen wasn't very bright. I got next to the window thinking it would be brighter... I was wrong. :(

Game boy advance is so cool!you can take it anywhere you always have nonstop fun just insert the cartridge and you are ready to play.Whether you are in a car at home or outside you can play!It is so portable and only costs about$69.99 thats not alot for what it is.and it even plays regular game boy games so if your looking for big time fun trust me on this you will like this a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the best selling and fastest selling video game machine ever? PS2?...nope, Xbox?...hardly, that's right it is the
GAME BOY!
It is so popular in fact, the Game Boy Advance has sold over 1 million units in 10 days so far during this holiday season. All Nintendo-made products have been of high-quality and well designed. This is especially true for the GBA.
The GBA has a 32-bit processor, just like the Playstation (the Game Boy Color had only an 8-bit processor). It has very good screen quality. In fact, the image resolution on the Game Boy Advance's screen is greater than that of some HDTV's. The Game Boy Advance has incredible sound and the speakers can play louder. The sound is even better with headphones. A nice added touch is the power light--It is green with new batteries, but turns red when there is 20-30% battery left and the light slowly fades out.
The GBA is able to connect to the Nintendo Gamecube through a special link cable available separately. You can also purchase an e-reader for Game Boy Advance that allows you to scan in paper cards that let you play classic NES games. Another exciting recent development is the annoucement of an accessory that plugs into the expansion port of your Gamecube and allows you to play GBA games on your TV. However, this product I believe won't be available until around March or so of next year.
All these improvements are very helpful and amazingly have virtually no effect on the size. The GBA still fits easily in your pocket and is only about a centimeter or longer and wider than the game boy color. In addition, the GBA has two shoulder buttons on top that aid in game-play.
The game paks are half the size of old game boy games but the GBA still plays all 1000+ Game Boy games already released. Due to the smaller size of the new games, the old Game Boy games stick out the top half-way, which is disappointing.
It comes in the standard colors of glacier (clear purple), indigo (purple), fuschia (pink-ish red), white, and special edition platinum. You can also buy a black verison with Super Mario Advance free here at Amazon.com (through Toys "R" Us) and I have seen a red version available at Target.
I would say that the Game Boy Advance is a very well designed portable gaming system and definately well worth its newly-lowered price.
