Off of the bat the gameboy advanced is way better than the gbc(gameboy color). The graphics on this little system are unbelievable. They are almost better that ps1.If you travel alot I would strongly advise this item to you folks.I got one this easter and i was completely mindblowen.I expected alot from it and i recieved alot from it.a awsome game for this is spyro season of ice.I have read about it and it is the best spyro game almost yet.But however it is 0nly on gba.i have a gbc and the gba completely barries any compition.the next best thing next to this system is the sgg or knowen as the sega game gear. Also what about all of this complaning about no backlit screen.who cares.I don't have any trouble seeing the screen.Everyone harps on the gba for this one reason.I can't see why.Today the best system to get out of the big leaguers is the ngc or nintendo gamecube. The gba can hook up to the gamecube on specially desined games. How cool is that.Well I said all I had to say.I strongly advise you run out and buy a gba.
(P.S.)I would buy the indigo color if i was you)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I love Gameboy Advance!!
I can't believe that some people think that the gameboy advance stinks. First of all, people think that it needs a backlit screen! What handheld console ever had a back lit screen? I think that the gameboy advance is the best portable game system ever created. It's shape makes it easier to hold than the gameboy color, and it has the same type of graphics as a PS1! (Gameboy advance has the same amount of megabites as PS1) (32MB) I hope this review is helpful to you.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - kids' liked gameboy color better
Gameboy advance did not go over as well as gameboy color. The picture quality is not as good on advance as it is on gameboy color.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best hand-held console to date
Ok, I'm sure you've heard all about the "dimness" of the screen from the other viewers. I am prepared to comment on that as well as many other things about the system.

The dimness, I have found, is not an issue. It is no worse than the Game Boy Color, and the screen has somewhat of a glare protection, so you can have light on it and still be able to see the screen. I don't see how people can complain about it not being backlit and developing headaches from it, as none of the other handhelds were backlit, and pretty much the only way you can get a headache from a system is if you have a tendency for seizures or something.

The screen is wider and taller, which is a plus. The system feels lighter than the Game Boy Color, and is smaller, which gives both positives and negatives. Being lighter is obviously helpful, as it makes it easier to carry, but being smaller also makes the buttons and D-pad smaller. I also believe that the controls are inconveniently spaced, and it can be difficult to hold.

Other than that, it is definetly the best hand-held system to date. It provides extraordinary 3-D graphics, and the 32 bits the screen offers is the same as a Playstation! Think about that, it's like a hand-held Playstation with Nintendo 64 games. It's amazing.

I would, however, suggest keeping your old Game Boy or Game Boy Color. Although the GBA supports them, the wider screen sometimes causes the graphics of the games to stretch to the size of the screen, making them distorted. But test your old games first, some of them don't become distorted.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - great, but poor visibility
We are new to the GB type of thing. I bought one GBA for my daughter for Xmas in lieu of the more expensive full systems like Xbox. She likes it. However, it IS HARD to see without a backlight. This varies from game to game; sometimes you can only clearly see regions, but not the whole screen due to darker graphics. I realize the backlight is not included to preserve the batteries, and keep the cost down to the manufacturer. Fact is they sell so many of these things, they could include the light, keep the price unchanged and still make a money, just not as much. We have tried using several different optional lights, and none really works well. There is just too much reflection off the plastic screen over the display which results in a lot of glare. Overall, GBA is a nice handheld device that is great when you are traveling; it really keeps the kids occuppied. However, adults will find it frustrating because of the poor lighting, and it could strain the eyesight of kids as well. Without the backlight, Nintendo is probably making a pretty hefty profit on these things, and until they get more complaints like this, they aren't abouyt to shave into that with a backlight.
