Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - This Game Is Awful
I expected much more from THQ's first wrestling game for Dreamcast after seeing their other wrestling games on other consoles. The only good thing about this game is watching nine wrestlers in the ring at the same time. There are only a little over twenty characters which is a disappointment to all wrestling fans. There are no wrestler introductions. The moves are very limited and boring. The replay value is virtually zero. This game will keep your attention for one day before it becomes absolutely boring. There are minimal game play modes. I urge you to rent this game first before you waste money on it. My copy of this game would be a coaster right now if I hadn't sold it before people knew how bad it was. THQ and WWF should be ashamed of themselves.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Bringing back the dead
Not only was Royal Rumble terrible, but it also reflected wrestling in no way. THQ started off by making the wrestling titles great. They put in all real moves and nice matches. The games might not have looked as good as Royal Rumble on dreamcast but the gameplay was sure as hell better. What THQ did was bring back Acclaim's Wrestlmania Arcade and In Your House games. The gameplay is the same in all which moves away from the real meaning of wrestling. This game would be fun at an arcade or with a lot of friends. However, when you are home and you just finished watching Raw or Smackdown, you want a game that depicts wrestling well as to emulate what you saw on t.v. Royal Rumble, in this case, would not be a good game to play. Yes the graphics are great and the Rock throws off the elbow pad, but is that what really makes wrestling games fun? No its how well the game moves in featuring the best athletes and having real matches like you see on t.v. Royal Rumble is a button mashing game which has terrible wrestling modes. They only have an exhibition mode and a royal rumble. What happened to a career mode where you could take your wrestler to the top. There is no create-a-wrestler. There is absolulty nothing fun at all in this game. If I were you I would not make the same mistake I did by buying this game and wait for either WWF Smackdown coming out on playstation or WWF No Mercy coming out on Nintendo 64. Hopefully THQ will clean up their acts for those games.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A fun WWF game, but...
...

I purchased this game when it was actually released right here on Amazon, and I'll tell you what I thought of it after a week of playing. It's a fun game. It looks beautiful. Probably the best looking wrestling game I've seen. The power of Dreamcast really shows here. I wish THQ would have actually thrown in some wrestler intros, since those would probably look nice on DC, but they didn't for some reason. The wrestlers just start out in the ring and do a pose or something, similar to the Ready To Rumble games, but without the trash talking or funny lines.

When they say it's "Arcade-like", they're not kidding! This game is NOT as deep as Smackdown or Wrestlemania 2000. There is no create-a-wrester, season mode, cage matches, special ref, or any of the wonderful features that made those other THQ games great. There are only about 20 wrestlers in this game. If you love lots of modes in wrestling games, then you'll be disappointed here. There are only two modes in Royal Rumble. Yes, 2.

Exibition: You pick a WWF superstar and go through 10 (quick) matches with random superstars, until you win..... nothing?

Royal Rumble: Pick a WWF superstar, and wrestle in the 30 man over the top battle royal. Since there are only about 20 wrestlers in the game, guys you have eliminated will return. The only good thing here, is that 9 guys can be in the ring at once - which is a first for wrestling games, but can be really confusing at times.

Bottom line, if you're looking for a game like Smackdown - with it's create-a-superstar mode, season mode, and all the extras, then you'll be disappointed in Royal Rumble. If you're looking for a fun game you can toss in and have a quick match or two with a buddy, then you'll probably like this game.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Smackdown it ain't......a wrestling version of NFL Blitz.
Boy, did I have high hopes going into this game. After playing Smackdown on the PSX, I thought Royal Rumble was gonna be the DC's answer.......and I was wrong. It's a direct port of the arcade game, and yes, 9 wrestlers can be on the screen at one time, but the game itself can get quite repetitive after a while. There's no real tag-team mode; it's system is similar to that of Marvel vs Capcom, where you have someone helping you out a couple of times during a match. No create-a-wrestler, no storylines, no belts......no nothing. Just the Royal Rumble. Just an exercise in button-mashing....the kind of game you have to play with someone else just to get some sort of enjoyment out of it.

My advice....DON'T BUY THIS GAME. It's good enough for a rent, but its replay value does not warrant paying a bundle of money for it. Play it in the arcades.....it's the same game, only much cheaper.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Fun for 2 Hours
I bought this game while I was cruising around Wal-Mart, It was a new WWF game for Dreamcast which i immediatly thought was awesome. Me being a WWF enthusiast and a big fan of Wrestlemania 2000 I thought what the hell and picked it up. This games high point is the 9 man royal rumble where 9 people are in the ring at once instead of the usual 4. But only being 20 playable characters (the game is missing a lot, 2 cool, Dudleys, Cactus Jack, Blackman, Crash etc.) you will definitly see Rikishy in there about 5 times, it gets repetitive INCREDIBLY fast. Maybe fun with 4 people. So then I tried the ONLY other mode, Exhibition, yes there are no create a player options, there are no match rules and no arena changes. Exhibition may be entertaining til you fight the incredibly hard not very exciting last wrestler (Vince or Shane...big whoop...). So you go through hell to beat them and ooo you get the credits...... In way of graphics, the lighting is sweet but the wresters look like smooth textured Smackdown wrestlers. The control system is the same as Smackdown and it can be quirky at some times. Dont waste your money and wait for No Mercy because thats gonna be awesome. This game seems like it was pushed out of the woodworks incredibly fast.
