Pokemon Puzzle League is so addictive i havent been able to stop playing on it. The game play is the same as Tetris Attack but with the appeal of pokemon, so the two combined are a winning combination. When you play against the computer you are playing against Pokemon trainers and once you have beat one you progress to the next. The fun isnt there though, the fun is beating your friends and you parents, as everyone is going to want to play this game.So you are going to have to make sure that you are the best to make sure that you get a game. I am a huge fan of both Pokemon (It's not just for little kids, you know.) and Tetris, especially Tetris Attack, the most addicting Tetris game in history. (My mom even liked it, and she doesn't like playing video games.) This game is the newest version of Attack, and it is much better. The 3D mode adds a lot of challenge and fun to the game. The 3D mode seems awkward at first, but after about ten games of it, you will be able to play it with ease. The 3D mode itself would have made this game worthwhile. The one player game seems to be focused more on Pokemon, but the Pokemon cinema scenes and humor make it a lot more fun than just plain ordinary Tetris. The spa service mode is the best and most challenging part of the game. It seems ridiculously easy at first, but halfway through it I found myself playing most of the levels at least twice. The 2-Player mode is fun, and is more focused on the Tetris part of the game. The main focus is on winning, but some Pokemon related things are found in this mode. I found the Pokemon and Tetris themes to be perfectly balanced. The game wasn't too focused on either element. Everyone should try this game. It is a great investment with a lot of replay value.

Just when I thought there were no good puzzle games for my soon-to-be-antique N64, I broke down and bought Pokemon Puzzle League, because the box made it look like a decent variation on Tetris. I know almost nothing about Pokemon, and at first I got scared that I would have to learn a bunch of mindless information like names of creatures and spells and tricks and whatnot. And the game has a lot of the Pokemon theme; various dialogues talk about the trainers and monsters and other confusing stuff that would make perfect sense to a seven year old kid.
Luckily, this has nothing to do with the game itself. Basically, you have a variation of tetris where you need to connect three or more blocks of the same color, either across or up and down. You can move a cursor and swap two blocks that are next to each other. And an empty block causes all of the ones above it to "fall" into place. Pretty simple stuff, and there's a practice mode, plus a few simple and slow modes, but then the pace picks up, and the blocks accumulate from underneath, eventually making the pile collide with the ceiling, ending the game.
There are a few twists to keep the game interesting; there's a two-player mode where you can add junk to your opponent's screen by completing lines. There's also a 3-D mode where the blocks are "in the round", making it very hard to keep track of all of the new blocks while removing old ones. The whole think is thematically linked to a Pokemon map, with the games in a stadium, the practice stuff in a university, and so on.
The play on this game is excellent, with smooth controls and good sound effects. I quickly became addicted to this game, trying to push my score just a bit higher with each try, but the theme music drives me nuts. The only reason I am not giving this game five stars is that I had to stop playing and get the music out of my head. Otherwise, this is an excellent puzzle game - one of the funnest implementations of Tetris I've ever played.

I bought this game for my daughter and found myself having more fun then her. The Pokemon are there for a visual and have no real impact on game play. Easy to pick up and play, diffucult to master. Addictive to anyone who likes a "Tetris" type of game.
