Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - It's from Square, what did you think?
Square has done beautifully in making the hop n' bop classics into an RPG. The story is very original and intriguing: As usual, Princess Peach is captured by Bowser. You, Mario, must head out and find her but soon, as you pick up handy items and willing characters, Geno the living doll meets you. You have a wierd star which he informs you is from his home star world and he has being trying to retreive them. Noble Mario and your early partner Mallow take this quest to find the stars and discover it leads to Bowser's castle. And here's a real killer: Bowser joins your team! When the cutscenes go on, you don't get the urge to zip through them; they have funny scenes and humorous remarks to keep you watching. With near 64-bit graphics and 3-D enviorments, you can have lots o' fun! (I hope you like turn based RPG's!)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Super Mario RPG is the best game EVER!!!!!
Super Mario RPG is the greatest game ever!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A phenomenal RPG in every way
When the Super NES was beginning its end, games sometimes are rushed out to beat the discontinuing of games and systems. Mega Man 6 was the last NES game released in America and it was not all that worthwhile of a game (although it is necessary to complete any Mega Man collection). However, for the Super NES, one of the last few games ended up being a great classic: Super Mario RPG. Combining the world of Mario with the designs of a classic RPG setting, this game is not only a great game, BUT a landmark game in the RPG genre.

This game uses a simple RPG system to introduce newbies to RPGs, but at the same time, it captivates veteran gamers with a great story and interesting characters. The biggest irony is that Mario doesn't speak, which is intended to be classic because a lot of RPGs have main characters that never speak. This will surely please even the jaded RPG gamer.

Since it came out near the end of the Super NES (at least in America, anyway), this game is very hard to find. Nevertheless, it is WELL WORTH YOUR TIME. The music is very good, the characters and story well developed, and the OldSkool-style battle system is very pleasing indeed. Plus, Mario and Bowser actually fight side-by-side.

It's a shame that Squaresoft and Nintendo didn't do any future joint projects together because this is a gaming feat. Perhaps they will now that Squaresoft is releasing past games on the Game Boy Advanced (Super Mario RPG for Advanced anyone?), but that has yet to be seen. My advice for you is to GET THIS GAME. The difficulty factor is rather easy, but do yourself a favor and engage yourself in a superb RPG.
