Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - What the Sega pad should've been
This is currently the best of the Dreamcast handheld controllers available. The most significant improvements are the larger, wider grip, which reduces wrist stress, and the rubberized control surfaces, which reduces friction fatigue and allow greater playtime endurance. The 2 extra buttons as digital counterparts for the analog triggers also come in handy, depending on the game. Only 2 complaints. The rubber on my oldest pad (I have two of these now, in addition to the two Sega pads) has started to shed. However, it's very minor and you can just blow it off when you're done. Also, the location of the reprogramming button makes it too easy to hit accidentally while playing, but once you learn it, you can quickly undo any accidental button remapping. (Actually, I don't see a good use to have a button reprogramming function, since the games themselves usually allow plenty of button reconfiguration.) Otherwise, great pad. I don't even use my Sega pads anymore. I save them to ambush people I don't like . Trust me, this is the pad to have.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Superior Alternative
Anyone who has ever paused a Dreamcast game to grab a sip of their favorite cold beverage has, no doubt, felt the cold sting of death. If the standard controller wasn't bad enough, the slightest bit of moisture on one's thumb causes slippage and the eratic compensation that always ensues. That's why I jumped at the opportunity to snag this RUBBERIZED alternative. What a difference it made! As a die-hard NBA2K enthusiast, I instantly began handily defeating my friends who previously ran with me neck and neck. They ultimately became so frustrated with the inequity that they purchased their own. Another improvement over the standard controller is its increased size. As someone with large hands, I often experienced hand cramps with the smaller, standard controllers. Fortunately, I have not had one cramp since the purchase of the Dream Pad...yet another performance enhancer. In spite of an otherwise surprisingly solid feel and construction, the only shortcoming that prevented a perfect five stars are the inconsistent, cheaply constructed, and too small triggers. (There is also a minor issue with the program button...but certainly nothing that can't be adapted to) Otherwise, this is the Sport Gamers Controller of Choice!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Great Third Party Pad
The Dream Pad is the best third-party controller available for Dreamcast. First and foremost, it has the extra Z & C buttons that we've all been longing for. The Z & C buttons mirror, respsectively, the left and right analog triggers. This is great for fighting games. Mad Catz, for the most part, has put rubber to good use here. You'll find rubber grips on the sides of the controller, rubber buttons, rubberized coating on the analog stick, and the one place where it doesn't work too well, a completely rubberized D-pad. Ouch. It just feels awkward, and its incredibly difficult to slide your fingers across it. Another minor flaw, the analog triggers are extremely cheap, as my Dream Pad's triggers only lasted 2 months before resting in peace. But of course, you have the C & Z buttons to take their place if need be. If you can't stand Sega's standard controller, this is a nice alternative, but the D-pad and the analog triggers bring this score down. GRADE : B-

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A good alternative
The construction of this pad is generally superior to that of the standard issue version. The rubber grips and cicular pad make long game sessions a tad more comfortable - though the pad makes menu selections a bit more imprecise. The addition of the L & R triggers as additional buttons on the face of the controller are also a plus.

However, the one big negative is the placement of the macro programming button just below the 6 button cluster. This button is easily pushed during gameplay resulting in inadvertant reprogramming. While easily avoided with time, it will quickly frustrate any casual users or newbies.
