Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Piece of useless junk
As the other reviewer mentioned, the stats are all wrong in this book, some of the units listed aren't even named the same. Before publishing this book, did the editor even bother to check for accuracy or conform to the stats in the final game?? In addition there are so many typos and mislabels and erroneous info that it's ridiculous, did anyone even check this book prior to publishing?

This is nothing more than an appendix of wrong info, there is little to no discussion of strategy, of how to use individual units, what tactics to use on the battlefield, how to manage mix of castles/cities, etc. This book is worthless, having played the game for a couple of weeks, I can write a better strategy guide than this piece of junk.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - It looks good up front, but buyer beware.
I have played computer strategy games since the days of the Atari ST (late 1980's). As a part of becoming involved in a game, I often do research on the genre. Some of my research involves reading fictional accounts of the era, while others involve reading actual historical accounts. When a strategy guide is available, I will usually look at it to see if it assists in my learning of the era. The purpose of this research is always to add to the overall gameplay. It helps me to visualize what some of the individuals of the period actually experienced.

I purchased the game Medieval 2 Total War in Mid December 2006. A short time later, I purchased Medieval II: Total War Official Strategy Guide by Brady games.

In the past, I have not hesitated to buy the Brady guides, hence, my impulse purchase. When I received the guide, I was impressed with its size and apparent quality. The pictures are all done in greyscale. The first quarter of the book is comprised of a discussion and overview of the game and the units involved. The final 3/4's is filled with the statistics for each unit in the game. In fact, it appears to be primarily a reference manual for the units in the game; very little strategy is actually discussed. Overall, not a bad layout and presentation.

As I stated, the book is primarily a reference manual for the units and this is where it falls well short of its goals. While in game playing as England, I would go to an English unit to see what its statistics were. When I compared the statistics against the ones in the book they were different. In fact, I could not find one example of any unit in the book that was the same in the game; they were all wrong!

For this reason, I cannot recommend this book. It fails in its primary purpose of delivering a reference manual for the units in the game. Best to check the internet for this information!
