Product Description: Nigel Danvers is on the run - two shadowy agents are on his tail, pursuing him across London to the grand train station at Liverpool Street. Nigel suspects that the afternoon's activities may be to blame! Travel with Nigel Danvers to an eerie seaside town on England's east coast. Learn to use advanced techniques used by real paranormal investigators, and uncover an ancient mystery and treasure. But, beware, not all of the towns residents will help in your mission, whether they are alive or dead. Inspiration from the haunting works of Charles Dickens, M.R. James, Arthur Conan Doyle, and E.F. Benson combines with real ghost-hunting gadgets to bring this frightening story to bone-chilling life. Success or failure in locating wandering spirits depends on your skill as an investigator. Placing motion detectors, night vision cameras, and temperature gauges correctly will reveal a location's haunted past, and expose terrifying apparitions. Rating: - A Beautiful Looking Game with a Coherent Story
The Lost Crown is a pleasure to play. Many adventure games look cliched and/or ugly. The Lost Crown, however, done in black and gray with touches of color is beautiful to look at. The muted color palette also heightens the suspense of the story. The Lost Crown has a coherent tale to tell, unlike many adventure games, and the puzzles (with a few exceptions) are integrated into the story rather than clumsily grafted onto it. If you are looking for an adult game that both maintains one's interest and ends with satisfying ambiguity, I recommend the Lost Crown.
Rating: - For people that loved "Scratches" but were left wanting more..
This is probably the best adventure game I've ever played. Prior to this game, I was very impressed with the game Scratches but felt like it ended too soon. This game is amazing in its depth and scope - you really feel like you are getting your money's worth in game play.
As for the scariness factor, I nearly peed myself at a couple of points in the game (and my husband too!); The game designer was really good at manipulating the atmosphere through music, lighting, and imagery to give you the jumps without relying on cheap blood and guts sequences.
** Note:
If you prefer the "Survival Horror" type of game (i.e. Half Life, Silent Hill, etc) rather than "Adventure Horror" (i.e. Scratches, Black Mirror, Barrow Hill), then you will probably hate this game. My guess is, the couple of bad reviews out there are from people that are desensitized due to games where you have to fend off corpses, mutant corpses, or skinned zombie dogs. In the Lost Crown you do not have to fight anything, and for the most part you don't see anything gory (except for one disturbing scene, buts thats it). Also, as with any adventure game, there are puzzles, but they make logical sense and keep the story going; In other words, you don't have to look at the walk-through. If this aspect bores you, you probably don't like most adventure games.
Rating: - A bit spooky
Great game to play at night in a darkened room with headphones! The Black & White game play was a great surprise, it adds to the ambience of the game. Not too difficult to play, lots of interesting characters. For you feline lovers beware, some of the town kitties will suffer awfull demises (no real kitties were hurt! only animated ones), my wife did get a little upset at one point BUT she did finish the game and made sure that the evil villain got his dues! Hope to see new titles from this author.
Rating: - gREAT Game
I am not even finished with this. It is SO interesting, and there are SO many places to explore. There are no puzzles for the sake of puzzles thus far. I really hate when games do that...like the last Sherlock Holmes game did.
The earie music, and ghosts suddenly moving around, and the MUSEUM!!! So many things to see, and movies to watch.
Maybe you super smarties won't find this enough of a challenge. I want adventure, and a mystery....not the constant puzzle after puzzle.
This has just been a trip! And it takes a while to play this...not because you are stuck on puzzle 2005. It is because this game is so rich in detail and story.
Rating: - Scared?
This is an excellent addition to Jonathan Boakes work. Unlike some games you can work out the puzzles with logic- no need to be a lucky guesser or download a walkthrough in pure disgust, only to find you need a pink pig with the left eyebrow missing, to unlock a cattleshed, to get a picture of the hero as a 12 year old, in order to open a safe. Scary - well it scared me in places - but then the best time to play is at night low light and definetely sounds on to get the full effect. I found Darkfall 1 scary - Darkfall II too easy and not as scary, but this is a game for grown ups and not for children - children might miss some of the nastier inferences or find the obvious ones too nasty - all depends on how you feel about cats. As for the ending - I thought this was the best so far - implying that there will be a further game. Can't think why you wouldn't buy this.
