Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A game that promised much but didn't deliver
With the new Dragonball Z Burst Limit game coming out next month for PS3 this may be the last in the DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi series. For me it is a sad farewell to the games that I spent months, and years playing, and I had hoped that the series would go out with a bang. I had also hoped that this game would be better than all of the other games combined, or at least close, but unfortunately this was not the case. But I may be dwelling too much on the bad aspects of the game, and overlooking the features that made me like the the series in the first place.

To start with Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 has more characters, from more parts of the Dragonball/Dragonball Z/GT story than any other game to date. Now you can choose between Dragonball Kid Goku, and GT Kid Goku, and everything in between. For the first time you can actually play as King Cold, something I personally have been wanting to do for years. In fact most of the characters that ever appear in DBZ are available, but unfortunately this is not so with DB, and GT characters. There are more of them than in Tenkaichi 1, and 2, but there are too many key characters that are left out. For example one of the first major GT Villains, General Rildo, is nowhere to be found. It is the same with Dragonball. For example you can now play as King Piccolo, and Tambourine, but what about Drum? Emperor Pilaf is available in his robot head, but what about Commander Black in his robot?

The graphics, and controls are basically the same as in the last two games, so there's not much to say about them. The music however has been completely redone, which to me is great because after five games of hearing almost the exact same music, I've gotten a little tired of it. One great feature that the makers have added to Tenkaichi 3 is the ability to save replay data, like in the Tekken series. Unfortunately this takes up a lot of memory, so to get the full benefit of it, you either have to play Tenkaichi 1-3 on one memory card, or miss out on the disc fusion benefits, and use one card for the entire game. Otherwise you should only use it a couple times at most.

One of the most promising features of the game, which I hope will be used in future games, is way the story mode is designed. In old story modes, you would have a cutscene at the beginning, and one at the end, that progressed the story. During the actual battle however, you had to fight, and in most cases win. The other cases you just had to run out the clock. For Tenkaichi 3 however, the game is more interactive, and as you fight a R3 icon will eventually pop up. If you press it, it will initiate either a cutscene, or an unbeatable attack. This makes this story mode, the truest to the actual story of the series yet, but now the bad news... To make up for the new story mode design, most of the fights (and some REALLY important ones too) have been cut out. One example of how ludicrous it actually is, is that the Majin Buu saga goes from Majin Vegeta's fight with Fat Buu to Vegito's fight with Super Buu. There is too much story left out in that gap to make sense, and only someone like me, who knows what does happen between those two battles can understand the story.

In all I was sorely disappointed with the story mode, and I had hoped that the game would deliver more than it did. On top of all that, because much of Tenkaichi 3 was the same as the last two, it didn't feel like this was much of a new game. But I did have fun playing the game, and if you have played any or some of the other games in the Dragonball Z Budokai/Budokai Tenkaichi series this game would be a nice addition to your library. To those who have not played any of the games, I would recommend some of the other games over this one, such as Dragonball Z Budokai 3, or Tenkaichi 1. To those who, like me, have played all the games, I would probably only recommend this if you know Dragonball, DBZ, and GT inside and out, and could recite the story in their sleep. Anyone else probably wouldn't like this game, or make sense of the story.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - this is a fun game, but i thought bio broly was in this game
I got this game on my birthday november15 and This game is fun but the thing is that they put new characters that don't really belong in here, and most of them i really don't play as, and that should'nt been in this game, characters like arale, babdi, kid chi chi, devilman, saibamen, dr wheelo, hercule, grandpa, pilaf, frieza soildier, cui, yajirobe, nam, chaotzu, android 8, appule, tambourine, and general blue. Those characters really did'nt belong in this game, but the other new characters are great, characters like future gohan, GT kid goku, nail, zangya, nova shenron, spopovich, great saiyawomen, turles, salza, king cold, fasha, kabitoki, king vageta, kid goku, general tao, cyborg tao, and pikkon, those are great new characters. And the old charaters are still great to, like what they did new to goku they put the past goku, middle goku, and future goku, i like how they did that so they seperate different attacks and moves from goku, instead of leaveing him one like they did in the other DBZ games. But i thought that bio broly was going to be in this game that really would had been great if he was, but thats okay he will probly be in DBZ burst limit i can't wait untill that comes out on xbox360 iam going to be playing people online and haveing fun like i always do, but this is a great game. There was nothing wrong with the storymode it was fine and fun it was'nt long like tenkaichi2 storymode was, tenkaichi2's storymode was to long and there was parts of the storymode that really did'nt make any seanse, but this game is better. I unlocked all the stages and i have only two more characters to unlock, and the characters are king cold and fasha i will unlocke them but this is a fun game. The stages are better to and great but the penguin village stage i have to say is a joke but its still great, fighting outer space is unique to but they did'nt have to put frieza's space ship there oh well its still fun, planet namek was always a fun place to fight in even in the budokai series games, so this is a fun great game.

Third time a cham and with this game they pull you in the world of Dragonball to be as close to the anime as posslibe. With well over 150 fighter to pick from this game will bring the warrior out of anyone.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Amazon gets a bad review
Amazon sent me two of these games when I only requested one. I was charged me for both. I returned one of the games for a refund and never received a refund, event though Amazon confirmed that they received the return. I've emailed Amazon to bring this to their attention and have not received a reply. They still have not refunded my money.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not a good game but not a bad game
Just as it says this is neither a good game not a bad game. It can seem fun if it is your first DBZ game but bad if this is not the first. If you've played the first 2 games then you'll notice that theres not much different than the the 3. The main difference is the adding of a few characters which you may never play as anyway (freiza's henchmen?) which means once you've unlocked all characters you may never play this game but a couple times then after that its prolly gonna collect dust. However if you've never played the first 2 tenkaichi games then give this a shot-you may just like it. However if you played the first 2, then I recommend just renting first before buying.
