Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - AWSOME!!!!
The game quest 64 is a game about a young boy named Brian who has to collect a book to save the world. In this rpg, you go around collecting elements to level up and defeat enemies for the same thing. This game is huge! It's amazing how satisfying this game is. You have fire, water, earth, and wind as the elements. As you level up, you gain more and more sweet attacks and spells at your disposal. Anyone that likes rpgs I strongly recomend this game.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - a decent '64 game
I have to say that this is one of the better RPGs for N64. Gameplay is lots of fun, and the linear nature makes it good for players of all ages. I don't like that there are few places to save the game though...

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A dull, repetitive and forgettable RPG.
One of the few RPGs for the Nintendo 64, in Quest 64 you take on the role of Brian, a young magician apprentice who is on a quest to save his father and recover a book of unspeakable power in order to save the world. This game, however, is also easily forgotten about. Most RPGs, such as Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG are usually among the best and most well known games the console has to offer. So why is Quest 64 forgotten about?

Quest 64 is without a doubt a highly rushed game. Many of the towns and castles contain few points of interests and have few items or secrets to find. There are absolutely no puzzles in the game, even in the forests and dungeons. Random battles are the bulk of the game.

Leveling up in the game and learning new spells is extremely tedious. Your spells are classified by element: Earth, Water, Fire and Wind and by finding things called "spirits" or by battling, you can level up these elements up to 50 and as you level the elements up, you learn new spells. However, you will need to fight many, many battles in order to do so. The same goes for increasing your other stats, such as HP and defense, except you have to get hit by the enemy's attack, which is also extremely tedious.

There is no money system in the game either. Instead, you are given things by people, finding them in chests or after battle. However, you are only given items from people if you do not already have that item, which can be annoying if you need more than one of an item.

However, the game does have a great battle system. Instead of staying in one place, you get to move around and dodge enemy spells. The enemies themselves are very cool looking and have various spells and abilities. However, they become extremely powerful very quickly, which will cause you to die quickly if you don't level up your stats.

But overall, most people will not enjoy this game. If you enjoy doing the same thing over and over again, you might like this, but you won't miss out on too much if you skip this game.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Absolutely terrible
This game might not be so bad if it wasn't so hard to find your way around. The camera is terrible and always finds a bad place to settle to. The dungeons are very repetitive and dull. In fact, it is impossible to tell one part of a dungeon from another or how far you have left to go in any of them. And very often, after one of the countless dungeon battles, you will be unable to tell which way you were going beforehand. So you'll end up spending an hour walking back to the entrance, only to have to turn around and go back the right way. As one of the Nintendo Power reviewers said about this game:

"It's more like a trip to the dentist than a quest."

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great game, if you have the players guide.
I've heard a lot of negative comments about this game, but I have to say that it is actually really really fun, IF YOU HAVE THE PLAYER'S GUIDE. I'm serious, without the guide, it would be nearly impossible it's so difficult to find the hidden spirits or figure out where to go or how to level up your magic and stuff on your own. When I first attempted to play this game I couldn't get past the first boss, but when I had the guide with me it was simple! I was lucky enough to find the guide for .01 at a video game store... the fact that it was on "clearance" for such a cheap "price" clearly reveals the fact that it's barely popular at all, but if you actually know what you're doing it can be very enjoyable, so give it a chance if you're up to it, but make sure you have a guide of some sort, don't try to figure it out on your own or you'll probably be running around in circles confused out of your mind.

Still no Final Fantasy or Zelda game, if your looking for a deep storyline action or RPG adventure game, but the storyline is actually pretty good considering, and the music is AMAZING! I'd agree with the other reviewer on this that the music is probably my favorite part of the game. I wish it was popular enough to have a soundtrack, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I WOULD recommend this game, just have an open mind, a guide, and make sure to enjoy the music as it's probably the best part. And it's fun to increase your powers and keep getting new magic spells to see what they do, then concentrate on a different element (water, fire, earth, wind) the second time you play through the game and see what different spells you can get. There are different strategies and it's fun to experiment and see what you can do differently each time. And the graphics and scenery are pretty good too, for an N64 game. Give it a chance, and you might be pleasantly surprised. I've had this game for quite a few years now and I don't regret my purchase at all. Hope this helps eliminate a little bit of the apprehensiveness about this game, and that maybe a few people will give it a try and get something positive out of the experience. It really can be fun, just make sure you're adequately prepared and you'll enjoy it.
