Revolutionary control

You've never played Super Monkey Ball like this before! Tilt, twist, roll, and jump all with the revolutionary Wii controller. The Wii's remote sensor picks up your every move as you slip and slide through colorful environments with the same tricky gameplay moves and colorful environments you know and love from the Monkey Ball series.

The single-player puzzle levels in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz have been innovatively designed to challenge gamers' skills like never before. For the first time in Super Monkey Ball, AiAi and his friends will have the ability to jump when players flick the Nintendo Revolution controller in an upward motion. The ability to jump has given game designers another dimension in which to expand the Super Monkey Ball gameplay experience and allows gamers a whole new way to interact with the franchise; this time in true three-dimensional fashion. Unlockable multiplayer games support one to four players and offer stiff competition. Think you've mastered the Wii controller? Put your money where your mouth is as you take on three friends in various match-based games of skill and familiar sports favorites.

Many many mini-games

The Party Games, for which the Super Monkey Ball franchise is famous, return with more variety than ever and over 50 total. As an added bonus, all of the Party Games are unlocked the first time you spin up the game in your Wii. An abundance of new Party Games have been creatively designed to take advantage of the Revolution controller in a multitude of ways. Gamers will find themselves competing in a traditional game of ring toss, fighting aliens in space with "Alien Attack," or even smacking pesky moles in a game of "Whack-a-Mole." With each mini-game, players use the Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz's large library of Party Games is sure to inspire friendly competition anytime.

New characters roll onto the scene

AiAi, MeeMee, GonGon, and Baby will be joined by new characters YanYan; a young, vivacious female monkey and Doctor; an older monkey with a past steeped in mystery due to his acute case of amnesia. The addition of YanYan and Doctor also marks another first for the Super Monkey Ball franchise, differing skill-set levels for each character. Each character will have strengths and weaknesses in categories such as acceleration, speed, and jumping ability. Even the size of the monkey ball and its weight will play a role in a character's performance in the game.

Doctor is a mysterious old that drifted down to Monkey Island from an unknown origin. He suffers from amnesia and doesn't even remember his own name. However, he is a well-liked, smart inventor, and everyone in town knows him as Doctor. Doctor has the highest acceleration out of the whole gang, but it's probably aided by some sort of contraption he invented. Being a bit on the old side his jumping skills aren't what they used to be as well, but he is still a good monkey to play with.

YanYan is a young girl that recently moved close to AiAi's neighborhood. She is a fearless girl, a master of the mightiest Monkey martial art of pugilism, Hachi-en-Ken. She might have fallen in love with AiAi and sometimes becomes very shy around him. YanYan is the highest jumper of the entire group. Her vivatious energy allows her to reach heights that are unusual for her size. If you like to jump, YanYan is the monkey to choose.

Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Looks fun...and that's where it ends.
I'm an 18-year-old college student...not a kid. Just for the record.

At first, my cousin and I were having a lot of fun with the minigames. We were gettting a little sick of Mario Party, so new games were definitely more entertaining at the moment. Some games were fun, others were just obnoxiously difficult. But what they all have in common is that the directions are TERRIBLE!!!! Before every game, you're told how to control everything, but not much is revealed about how the game actually WORKS. So you can control it no problem, the challenge is figuring out what the heck you're supposed to do!
Also, some of the games really aren't "mini"games at all - the jigsaw puzzle was like nails on a chalkboard to watch...my cousin and her friends standing inches from the TV trying to put together miniscule *moving* pictures was less than amusing. Golf was equally annoying - I had to try to hit my ball several times before the stupid thing actually registered my movements.
I can't say much about the main game, except that it got boring after three stages.
Easily said, I was frustrated at the game and myself for buying the game. I'm sure with practice, these might be fun, but then it won't be fun at parties with people who haven't had time to practice.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - RENT BEFORE BUY
Well I rented Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz because I havent played SMB in a while. This game was not to my liking at all because with the wii it is a lot more complicated to manuver with controler. I would not buy this game

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - 50 mini games worth 20 alone, though not more
here's my list about the game & about the controls more importantly:
most games have only 1 or 3 levels, only rare few have 5, only about 12? use the nunchuck, you can choose left or right handed.

Super Monkey Ball (MB) 50 mini games -
(almost all games require steady hand as most only want small movements or you will totally lose control/aiming ability):
Alien Attack (hovercraft, very hard to control, cute), Asteroid Crash (shooter, addicting, over too fast), Banana Catch (over sensitive control), Banana Thief (cute arcade, difficulty registering my jumps), Bug Balance (balance, small movements only, cute), Dangerous Route (like marble madness, top view track, skill), Disk Golf (Frisbee/golf, fun, but aiming is erratic), Fish Catcher (spear underwater, cool), Free Throw (basketball 5 baskets far away view, cute/easy), Frog Ball (horrendous aiming control), Fruit Basket (little issue registering middle basket, otherwise easy/boring), Hammer Throw (like M&S Olympics cute/fun), High Wire Act (very sensitive controls, boring/simple), Home Run Derby (like Wii baseball batting practice, good controls, addicting), Hovercraft Battle (same control, bumper cars style), Hovercraft Race (same control hovercraft but get flags), Hurdle Race (like M&S Olympics, addicting/fun, too short), Jigsaw Puzzle (cute, turning pieces can be a pain), Jump Rope (simple/cute/easy), Keepy up (bounce MB on bat like Arkanoid, addicting), Monkey Bowling (oversensitive controls, frustrating), Monkey Boxing (great first person feel, very cute), Monkey Darts (decent control, cute), Monkey Fencing (just like M&S Olympics in looks/control), Monkey Golf (too broken to bother), Monkey Race (just like Mario kart w/items), Monkey Snowboard (snowman obstacles, fun/simple), Monkey Squash (more like racquetball, camera is behind both players which isn't as fun), Monkey Target (land right spot, boring), Monkey Wars (awesome FPS like laser tag), MonkeySmith (hit metal right direction, simple/boring, last set broken), Numbers (click on randomly moving billiard balls in # order or random, brain age style, fun/addicting), Paper Sumo Fighter (use remote to push, hard to aim), Paraglider (land correctly, hard controls, boring), Racing Birds (through rings, great graphics, fun), Red light-Green light (move like M&S Olympics, simple/cute), Ring Toss (simple/cute), Rock-Paper-Scissors Attack (cute idea /helmet & hammer after win/loss, very fast play, hard to see hands), Scoop the Goldfish (boring, hard to control), Seesaw Ball (balance seesaws to drop MB to ground, cute, fun), Shepherd (control dog to herd sheep into barn, oversensitive, boring), Simon Says (w/2 flags, addicting, brain age style), Sling Shot (fling MB, great controls, fun), Space Monkey Attack (Galaga style, fun, easy), Spaceship Landing (boring), Treasure Submarine (arcade, fun idea, hard to control), Trombone (guitar hero style, way oversensitive controls), UFO Capture (cute, tiny movements), Whack-a-Mole (fun, though sensitive control), Yacht Sailing (hard to turn, but good graphics & watch out for sharks, cute)

Great Games: asteroid crash, home run derby, hurdle race, keepy up, monkey boxing, monkey darts, monkey race, monkey snowboard, monkey wars, numbers, racing birds, seesaw ball, simon says, sling shot, space monkey attack, treasure submarine, ufo capture, whack-a-mole

Ok Games: bug balance, dangerous route, disk golf, fish catcher, free throw, jigsaw puzzle, jump rope, monkey squash, red light-green light, ring toss, rock-paper-scissors attack, yacht sailing

you can get a total in-depth word documnet from GameFAQs from knuckles_sonic8 who did a great job & is more honest which games are really broken/issues & which just require skill/steady hand. tells you everything, name, description, fun factor, game style, how many players, nunchuck needed, advice for better score/how to play, problems/issues w/the game & how to avoid them if can be avoided.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - So Much Fun - Until it gets IMPOSSIBLE!!!
The Wii controller makes this entry in the Monkey Ball series - Soooo much harder - but you get over that, and learn how to adjust - but then the levels start getting near impossible to beat. A few I only beat through luck after the 80th or so try... For such a fun game, it's unfortunate how hard they made it.

I checked an online guide, and apparently to unlock some of the later worlds - you have to beat the entire game without "continuing" - huh??? Yeah I don't think I'll ever have the patience or time to do that - but the first 8 or 9 levels were a lot of fun for my wife and I... just be ready to get VERY ANGRY here and there :)

Side note - the mini games are a let down, we got bored (and frustrated) after only trying a few of them...
But that might be an unfair review as there are still 37 or so to try...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not for beginners - could be frustrating
The objective of this game is to guide a rolling 'monkey ball' through a range of obstacles (slopes, stairs, gaps, bridges etc) through a series of passages. The levels are vibrant and very colorful. Wii motion controls are cleverly used and amazingly nice and intuitive. Be careful not to fall off the edge and fight a boss at the end of each one of the ten levels. The levels get progressively difficult and quite challenging (some very difficult, esp. the bosses). To add to it, there is a time limit on levels. You may get frustrated if you are an average gamer or beginner.

The game also has 50 mini games of varying difficulty and goals - most with simultaneous multi-player capability. The variety is so much that you'll always like / dislike something. The great thing about it is that you dont have to do anything to unlock these games. You can play them just from the mainmenu even w/o playing the main game. A lot of these are good fun like the good old arcades (bug balance, hurdles race, jump rope, submarine, space attack, snow surfing, racing, banana thief etc) but with wii motion controls. Surprisingly, for some games, the wii motion controls are not so smooth/intuitive. You really need very tight hands. So, I didn't like playing golf and a few other games.

Bottomline: Main game can be frustrating for beginners. Huge variety of mini-games.
