About the Xbox 360 Hardware

Xbox 360 with wireless controller
Xbox 360, shown with separately sold wireless controller, is a sleek, customizable gaming and entertainment system.

Xbox 360 is much smaller than its predecessor--it measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor with 10 MB of embedded DRAM. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games on standard TVs, and even better looking ones on HDTV sets thanks to built-in support for HDTV (720p/1080i/1080p) resolutions.

The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box (the optional Media Remote is sold separately). For game-save and media storage, users can choose between 64MB flash Memory Unit, or a detachable and upgradeable 20GB hard drive (sold seperately). Along with storing files, the hard drive will make the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with part of the existing Xbox game library.

Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user "Dashboard" interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. The Xbox 360 can accommodate up to four wireless controllers and has three USB 2.0 slots to use for wired controllers or for streaming your digital media from digital cameras, MP3 players, and any Windows XP-based PC.

Xbox 360 user interface
Xbox 360 can manage your games, your online friends, and your personal digital library.

About Xbox 360 Games and Media
All Xbox 360 titles can be played in either standard or high-definition resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smoother graphics. Game designers will be able to take advantage of the system's multi-channel surround sound. The Xbox 360's digital media allows users to supplement any game's music from tracks in their own personal library.

About Xbox Live
A built-in Ethernet port allows users to connect their system to a broadband connection for access to the new Xbox Live service. The included Silver membership lets anyone create a Gamertag and gamer card to express your online identity, chat live with voice chat (separately sold headset required), and connect to the Xbox Live Marketplace to buy and download expansions, maps, and other digital goodies for your games. Upgrading to a Gold membership adds to that online competition, game stats, demos and video chat/messaging. The separately sold wireless network adapter supports the common 802.11a, -b, and -g standards.

Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great customer service
I've seen some previous reviews and highly disagree with 'em. People, if you wanted memory alongside this, you shoulda read the description better. As for me, these people have done nothing but watch my back. I purchased one way back in January and it still runs smooth as silk. I had all my cords and memory and whatnot from my previous and busted 360. and in my opinion, it ran better. When I went to buy another as a gift for a friend, the first thing that happened was they asked me if it was because the last one I bought was busted already. They gave me instructions that were not only beneficial but very kind. These people look out for their customers unlike the rest of of the customer services I dealt with. I for one have never once made a regret of buying this. But for those who just rush shop and not pay attention, then, yeah, let the buyer beware.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good System
We love the Xbox, only problem is once in a while it refuses to read our disks! Have to keep trying to load CD, eventually they are played, but sometimes takes a while, otherwise it's great!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Original core system just died
Pre ordered it 11/05 got & it a week after release. Purchased the hard drive when it released as well. 3 plus years in a well ventilated area w/intercooler and it only just crapped out. It now blinks a beautiful shade of red.
I still recommend the 360 as the better of the two systems. I've had alot better luck with Microsoft than Sony. I still have my original Xbox in working condition. Can't say the same for PS2(went through 2 in 3 years).
I'll definetely get a new 360 soon. It's worth getting again.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Xbox tampered with - wtf?
I am in shock. The Xbox360 was alot of fun until I got the red rings of death. I called Xbox help and they sent a box. I followed the instructions in the box. Took the game out and took off the harddrive. I put the stupid thing in the box and dropped it off at UPS. I got an email a couple of days later saying that it had been shipped back to me. I received it "unrepaired" with a letter saying that I violated the Extended Warranty. I called Xbox and they told me it wasn't repaired because I tampered with it. I can't believe it. I never opened it or did anything to it other then mail it. They are cheats completely. The amount of money microsoft is making and they call me a liar instead of fixing it. I could only talk to an Indian guy (he was nice) and all he could tell me is I tampered with it and sorry.

MIcrosoft's does not want to take a hit on all these crappily made consoles.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - BUYER BEWARE!
I have owned my Xbox 360 for a year now and am having a problem with the console cd tray. The tray is stuck and simply will not come out. Upon further looking into the problem online and through friends I have learned that 1 out of every 3 xbox 360 consoles will suffer a major problem within a year. The 1st and most common problem being that the console just scratches up and destroys every cd you insert, the 2nd most common is that the console just shuts down and just dies, and lastly my CD tray problem. I suppose I should be somewhat greatful that I have the less damaging of the 3 problems but all in all whatever problem you may encounter will just result in a 300 dollar waste of money. Microsoft has been very well aware of these problems since the launch of the system over 3 years ago and has done little to nothing to improve the quality of the system. Also lets not forget that the xbox 360 is the only game console where you have to pay a yearly fee to play online AND the only game console that will not allow any business besides their own to make repairs. This means that you will have to pay about 30 dollars to ship a broken system back to the company and in addition to that a average repair fee of about 50 dollars so not only are they producing a cheap quality system they may also be profitng from it. Just incase you wont take my word on these problems just try googgling it yourself.
