Rating: - very boring
I think this game is so boring. All you do is run around in hover shoes and pick up guns to shoot people or aliens, you swear every time you get hurt, and you can run around dying easy. I don't know who made this game, but I addmit I like the music. The rest is all very very very very very boring. I think this game was a waste to buy. But if you like cool music, buy this game and listen to the music, but don't play the game itself.
Rating: - The best Sonic game EVER!!!
I have heard almost no positive reviews for this game yet it was the best game in the Sonic series. Shadow is cooler then Sonic. You can use swords guns and bombs to get rid of anyone who gets in your way. If you don't like it you can stick with the classic homing attack. You can choose to be good like every other Sonic game or shake things up by turning Shadow totally evil. Everyone complained the controls were hard but my 11 year old sister played this game with no trouble. Shadow the Hedgehog is the best Sonic game EVER! Keep your fingers crossed for Shadow the Hedgehog 2.(Sadly that doesn't look very likely.)
Rating: - Shadow the Train Wreck
First of all, I would like to say that I have been following this series for several years now, and I have gotten at least some pleasure out of every installment in the franchise, with the exception of the incredibly frustrating Sonic Advance 2. However, the Sonic train had started to slow down too much (especially after the disappointing Heroes), so Sega decided that it was time to mature the series. So, they spent time building a new train, with some similarities to the old train. They looked at it, and decided that they wanted a "cooler" train. So they attached some weaponry and painted swear words on the side. Then they set it out for its maiden voyage. If you read the title of my review, then you should know what happened next. Shadow the Hedgehog is a complete and total train wreck, from presentation to gameplay to everything else.
Let's talk about the presentation first. I thought from the CG opening that I might be in for a real treat graphics-wise. Instead, I get character models that look worse than the Sonic Adventures and mostly bland environmental textures (though some look quite nice). Weapons, though they are essentially all the same, do look different (and in some cases, imaginative) at least. The levels basically look like the same ones you've been playing since the first Sonic Adventure, though, so that passing resemblance to previous entries in the series may be some comfort to otherwise-appalled fans. Overall, the graphics are mediocre at best. I'm positive that it's not the fact that I've been watching videos of Gears of War and Resistance, this game just doesn't look good.
The sound is even worse. The musical score, if you can call it that, is only noteworthy for its moments of extreme cheesiness. The voice acting ranges from decent to terrible, but they aren't as painful to the ears as an episode of the Viz dub of Naruto. Other than Shadow packing heat and the falsely alleged racism, what this game has possibly caused the most contoversy is the swearing. I can tell that most of the reviewers for this game are probably too young to be using this site, as they all either list the cursing as "cool" or as "evil". Quite frankly, it's neither; it's simply annoying after the first ten times. I'm playing this game to have fun, not to have Shadow unenthusiastically saying "damn it!" piping into my ears constantly! If the swearing were only in the cutscenes, it could have added some maturity to the story. Instead, it sounds like a six-year old using swear words because they make him sound "cool".
Lastly, the story. It basically consists of Shadow running around until he fights the final boss who reveals Shadow's origins to him. Yeah, this is compelling stuff, all right.
Now the gameplay. First of all, despite reviewers' claims, I have rarely experienced problems with the camera or the controls in previous Sonic titles. That has changed with Shadow. Shadow controls like a rabid squirrel on a frozen lake: slippery and uncontrollable. The addition of guns further muddies the control. You barely have any control over what you're aiming at. Vehicles seem to be the only thing that actually work properly.
As for the actual gameplay, I was hoping for either:
A: Standard 3D Sonic gameplay with weapons implemented well
or
B: Slower-paced, run-and gun action in a somewhat open world
Instead, I get some sort of fusion of the two that works in any way but well. Most of the time, it's basically Sonic Adventure 2, but you have to stop occasionally to shoot something. That's not exactly fun, but it's bearable, and it thankfully makes up nearly all of the neutral missions. My main gripe with it, besides the fact that it's not that much fun, is that no matter what side you're on (hero or evil), you get attacked by both sides. While I can understand the GUN soldiers, as they have been ordered to kill Shadow by a general who hates him for reasons unknown (though finding out what these reasons are is one of the game's only interesting plot points), but the Black Arms, aliens who are trying to help Shadow on the evil missions? Ugh. Where this game really collapses, though, is the tedious (and in some cases, endlessly frustrating) collecting and killing missions that make up the majority of hero and evil missions. Kill every soldier? Do I really have to if I want to advance the story in an evil direction? Help Charmy find some CDs? Can't I just find Sonic and the rest of the group and head somewhere FUN with them? Boss battles are not much better. Basically, there are 5-7 bosses that you will be forced to fight over and over again if you want to go for 100% completion. If that sounds fun to you, that's good, because that's what you'll be doing for most of your play time; playing the same darned stages that you just played on your last play-through. In fact, this regurgitation is the only reason Shadow the Hedgehog has so much content to offer. Basically, you'll be playing the same thing constantly. You have to see all 10 endings if you want the true ending, and most of these endings have little difference from each other, depending on which of the three final bosses you fight. Still, for the person who reads this review and for some reason still decides to buy the game, you are getting a lot of content for $20, and the only reason this game gets above a 2 for overall rating. Just don't come crying to me if you lose your mind after playing through the same stages for the umpteenth time.
Simply put, this game can be compared to Plan 9 from Outer Space quite easily; it's something that's terrible that takes itself too seriously to the point of being hilariously bad. Simply put: DON'T BUY IT.
Rating: - Shadow the Hedgehog- My review
Shadow the hegehog is a very fun and long game, it kept me occupied alright. And you really do have fun on the game if you accept for what
it is. I know, sure Shadow does say "Damn" a little more than he should,
and it does have guns in the game, but it is rated E10+ for a reason.
Now the storyline of the game is fantastic, it really gets you hooked
into the game. And over 300 endings aswell. Of course you don't need
to unlock all of them, just 10 to see the true ending.
And the game, like all games, has its flaws aswell. Here are the cons and
goods in the gameplay.
Cons
-The actual in-game graphics aren't that good
-The cussing is annoying at times
-Some of the stages are actually pretty hard to pass
Well, that's my review of the game. And all Sonic fans and gamers alike should buy this great game, or atleast give it a rental try.
Rating: - hi
When they first came out with this game I thought it was going to be a disaster because theyve never before created a whole game starring shadow, it was only sonic.
When I got the game and played it for the first time it was very different from all of the other sonic games (Differences: guns, aliens, everything was darker, you were either bad, good or selfish, and you loved a little barbie-doll girl).
But after a while I got used to it and realized that it was a really good, fun game. The differences were the fun parts. Also the new things that other sonic games dont have is the seven keys, which, in the first level unlocks a car that you can run over people. I'll list them down:
Good
- Theres portals to take you back to the places that you've already been incase you forgot something or want to do something back there.
- You can choose what you want to do: Good, Bad or just take the Emerald.
-You can unlock cool things when you find seven keys.
-You can go in a car inside.
- You can have cool weapons and bombs.
- You can still go really fast like sonic
- Everyone (sonic, knuckles, tails, dr. eggman, big, that bunny, that girl who likes sonic, ect.) is still in this.
Bad
- Everyone (sonic, knuckles, tails,dr. eggman, big, that bunny, that girl who like sonic, ect.) sounds funny ( weird and different).
The levels get really hard after a while
-Some levels are so hard and confusing that it will keep you on that until you quit.
- The graphics are only good on the scenes when youre not playing, when you are they get worse.
- The levels are dark(to see in).
- Every time he dies he cusses.
So yeah. If you really like challenges, get this game. Its really fun once you get used to it. But I think that it should be rated T for guns and violence and cussing. Just get it if you're aloud T games. I hope this didn't sound mostly like bad things about this game because it's really good. You should get it. I RECOMMEND IT. yes... I do.
