I have played this game for many years and consider it my favorite.
The game is completely moddable to meet your taste, including the behavior of AI. One other good aspect of this game is that AI cheats little if any at all. The game is extremly stable. It has never crashed on me an all of the years I have owned it. Great job Aaron Hall, the creator of this gem.

This game is really creative. It has several nice pictures and cool features.
Rating: - The best game I've ever played
Space Empires IV combines detailed empire management with an amazing amount of strategy...all against the backdrop of interstellar combat! I've truly never found such a customizable game that has stayed on my hard drive for so long.
The only minus is a slightly weak AI, but still far better than most AI's I've come against in other 4X games. Not to mention the fact that there's several mods that improve the AI immensely.
All in all, I'd recommend that if you're looking for a great 4X space strategy game, go download the demo, see what you think. I bet you'll love it. Then buy it ;)

By far this is one of the best 4x games ever made. It has been available for nearly 5 years now and is due to be released in stores sometime this year. Space Empires IV Gold should come with a warning as to how addictive it turly is. The game is one of the most moddable games ever made, easy to mod, easy to play, and loads of fun. The game is well worth the price being asked.
