Product Description: Mankind created the Bydo in the 26th century as weapons of ecological destruction against our enemies within the galaxy. Unlike conventional weapons of defense, the Bydo were conceived as limited range weapons with the purpose of destroying every ecological form in their path. The Bydo were placed inside a container almost as large as the moon where they consumed everything and continued to evolve. A combination of physics, genetic engineering, and black magic resulted in man-made creatures o

Rating: - The Last Best Space Shooter of All Time!
I owned almost every game system since Coleco and so played plenty of games but space shooters are my personal favorite. There are not too many great space shooters in the "new" age of PS3, XBox360, or Wii. Let me say that the last space shooter for the PS2, R-Type Final, made a grand exit and remains the best shooter of all time. Hands down! Not even Gradius can come close. The levels are intense and beautiful. The weapons are a eye popping feast! The best part of the game mechanic is that when you die you can continue forth at the spot that you died and not have to start from the very beginning which can be very annoying. But that doesn't take away any of the difficulty. The replay value is very high. I am hoping that R-Type gets a nice re-incarnation on the PS3 by the same team.
Rating: - Awesome waste of time
Multitudes of ships and beautiful vistas combined with some wicked gameplay makes this one great shooter.
If only they were all this good!

WOW!!!! the best r-type. Numerous guns and ships, wicked speeds, and amazing bosses, enjoy.
Rating: - "Gradius" meets "Pokemon"
Those looking for a fast paced side scrolling shooter will not be disappointed. Those who value their free-time away from video games should look elsewhere.
R-Type Final offers a rewarding shooter experience provided you challenge it on "Human" (normal) difficulty or higher. It's hardly worth playing on the lower settings due to a lack of any real challenge.
This game offers 101 different ships you can play with. Unlocking them is both rewarding and aggrivating. Everytime you unlock a high powered ship, you'll enjoy exploring its capabilities in battle. However, the novelty only lasts for one play-through at most. On the other hand, the flight time you have to log with a particular ship to unlock new ones can be truly absurd. Sometimes you have to log over TWO FULL HOURS of flight time in a ship to unlock a new one.
The battle mode is interesting and challenging in its own way, though I honestly would have preferred the inclusion of a two-player mode.
While R-Type Final is by no means perfect, it's a rewarding experience for those looking to relieve the heyday of side scrolling shooters. Just anticipate loosing many, many hours of your life to unlocking new ships.
Rating: - Great game
If your tired of all the first person shooters and RPGS... This game rocks.. It was 1990 all over again for me.. Love the game.. Since i didnt have anm original playstation I can only comment that the 3d effects they added in this version make the game more appealling for me :) The only issue I have is that you cant play 2 player.. But i can forgive that.
