Product Description: For over 75 years, Shure has sustained an emotional connection to the world of amplified communication. Its products instill and inspire the confidence that performers, leaders and communicators rely on to express themselves. Everyday, everywhere. It's your sound.
Amazon.com Product Description: Designed for a variety of applications--from karaoke concerts to multimedia recording to instrument amplification--the Shure 8900W all-purpose microphone delivers quality audio performance for an affordable price. Singers and musicians alike will appreciate the wide 50 Hz to 15 kHz frequency response and the unidirectional pickup pattern, which combine to make vocal performances sound clear and vibrant. From a musician's perspective, the mic makes a good studio or on-stage aide, primarily when guitarists or drummers are trying to create a cleaner overall sound (unidirectional mics help isolate an instrument from the mix while reducing ambient noise). If live music isn't your game, the mic also excels within the home when connected to a multimedia application. The 8900W's 3.5 mm plug is compatible with most computer sound cards, letting users record everything from vocals for music tracks to spoken-word sound files for cell phone rings to sound effects for digital movies. Other locations where the microphone might be used include lecture halls, schools (over the PA system), religious facilities, and office meeting rooms.
To assist singers, musicians, and multimedia experts, the 8900W comes with a microphone bag and a break-resistant mic holder with a 3/8-inch thread adapter. Additional accessories include a 15-foot cable with a 1/8-inch (3.5 mm) plug and a compatible 1/4-inch (6.3 mm) adapter. Thanks to the accessory pack, users will be up in running in minutes without having to make an emergency trip to Radio Shack. The mic also comes with a two-year warranty against defects.

Rating: - This microphone do not work well with my sound card
I bought the mic in the hope to record quality sound on my computer. However, I have to turn the volume and the level of mic both to the maximum in order to produce a decent loudness on my speaker system.
My sound card is SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook. I used my computer's built-in sound card to test it, too, and the result is the same: the output from the mic is too weak.
Rating: - The sound is good.
I am impressed by the sound quality, much better than those found in Walmart.
Rating: - Not recommended for Karaoke or vocals
This is the same mic that is included with Shure 100WD microphone sytem. The only additional item in the 100WD is a desktop stand. So if you don't care for a desktop stand, go for the cheaper 8900.
I bought the 00WD for Karaoke and vocals, and was much disappointed by the extreme sensitivity of the mic handle and wires. If your fingers moved even a bit (without tapping too and far away from the mouth piece), the noise would be heard. Definitely poor quality mic if you want to hold it in your hand and sing. Much disappointed.
If you want to leave it on a stand, you could consider it as long as the wire is not touched at all.
I returned my piece back to Amazon, and am back in the market looking for a better value for money.
