Amazon.com Review:
Guilty Gear X2 is a simple, fun 2-D fighting game with quirky characters and a variety of options that allow for a customized gaming experience. A perfect blend of old-school 2-D gameplay (think Street Fighter) and responsive controls makes it very easy to get started. You get to control a host of oddball characters (20 different fighters are unlocked at the start) who all have detailed profiles and continually animate during the game. Some characters come with guest characters that make appearances during or after the fight. Backgrounds contain detailed animations and changes in weather. A decent selection of generic fighting-game music rounds out the title.

GGX2 offers nine different game modes: arcade, Medal Gauge, vs. 2P, vs. CPU, training, survival, mission, story, and gallery. All modes are available at the beginning of the game. Story mode adds anime-style background and unlockable cinemas that can be saved to a memory card. Mission mode offers up a fully detailed system to control all aspects of battle, and Medal Gauge allows for new combos by building up a collection of medals.

Aerial battles are similar to a Marvel vs. Capcom-style game and allow for some amazing combo possibilities. A return from Guilty Gear X is the Gauge meter, which allows for explosive attacks that will sometimes fill up the entire screen. Instant Kill is also back in this version and is similar to a Mortal Kombat fatality--but occurs during the match.

Guilty Gear is one of the premier 2-D fighting-game franchises, and GGX2 lives up to the legacy. Instead of the series entering the world of three dimensions, we are given a two-dimensional feast of options, great graphics, and gameplay. --Carlos Rodela

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I feel Guilty not buying this title sooner!
I'm gonna try to keep this short and sweet, this game totally ROCKS!, its 2d at its best, the graphics and colors are so viberant and the game play is so sweet with awesome combos that can be chained to other combos, needless to say this game is no walk in the park, with each level the game becomes harder and harder to beat so it will challenge your skills and if thats not enough the fun factor will leave you hungry for more, this game is a must have for fighting fans alike, totally recommended.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great game but be careful who you buy it from!
This in my opinion is the best 2D fighter on the market, far superior to the likes of Marvel V.S. Capcom 2.There are some price gougers trying to sell this game for close to 200 bucks for new and sealed but in one month (August 2007) the whole gulity gear set is coming in one package for under 40 bucks (this game included).Sort of like what Need for Speed and the Devil May Cry series has done. When this set releases the value of the Guilty Gear X2 sealed games is going to drop from about 150-200 bucks to a mere 10 bucks or so if that.Let these price gougers watch their games values drop to nearly nothing and wait to purchase the full set next month for $39.99

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Why it's the BEST 2D FIGHTER EVER
Before I picked up this game, I used to think that MVC2 (marvel vs capcom 2) and CVS2(capcom vs snk2) were the best fighters ever, but now I can truly say that guilty gear x2 is the greatest 2d fighting game ever made and without a doubt. After I played the game, I realized flaws in my two previous favorites...

Why Marvel vs capcom 2 does not compete with the GGX2?
-Characters in MVC2 are not balanced. some characters will never be used, while others are more overpowered
-Horrible Jazz Music
-Annoying voice in background
-Infinite use of helpers makes the game a bit too dumbed-down for noobs
-AI is stupid.

Why Capcom vs snk 2 is not as good as GGx2?
-Characters in CVS2 lack uniqueness. too much ryu clones...ken, ryu, akuma, evil ryu, shin akuma, dan, ryo, etc..
-you don't learn much about the characters

Why GGX2 is pure quality fighting game?
-Very hard AI. try maniac mode in arcade...
-Awesome story behind characters
-Characters are very very unique and you will love them. Even though there were 23 characters it felt like there were more characters than mvc2's 56 and cvs2's 48.
-The gameplay fighting is VERY VERY GOOD. It's the perfect balance between mvc2's too crazy fighting to cvs2's more technical fighting. Connecting normal moves with supers are not so easy in GGX2 which i found to be one of the flaws of mvc2(noobs might prefer this). The fighting is fast and intense without having all of those helpers run around, but technical enough to really appreciate. Doing big combos really takes alot of time and skills to master. From begining to end of fights, you will not let your guard down because of the instant kills.
-Replay value is INSANE. Mastering story mode, survival mode, MOM mode, Arcade mode on Maniac and especially mission mode should consume over 100+ hours. With unlockable sp and ex characters, you feel like there is so much variation in the game!
-The music is incredible! It really gets you in the mood!

I am not trying to say that marvel vs capcom 2 or Capcom vs SNK 2 are bad games, but seriously.. after you play Guilty Gear X2, you will definitely notice alot of shortcomings from MVC2 and CVS2. The only reason why this game is not a humongous hit is because nowadays everyone flocks to 3D games...if you miss this game just because it is 2D...you are truly missing out...it will probably be the last of the greatest 2D fighters if not the greatest...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Update GG needed, but definitely not the concept.
I still rank Guilty Gear X2 with high marks but I lack the appreciation of execution this game has except for the music-- the music I'll admit is damn good and the graphics are a huge boost from what Guilty Gear (the original) was but I'm disappointed in the change GG has gone through, becoming the X Series. In a way, I don't even consider the X series a part of the whole Guilty Gear deal but that it was a different direction for Ishiwatari Daisuke's projecto move around in-- it all became a part of the whole pop culture deal rather than the underground swagger it had going on back in the late 90's and seemed to have appealed more to a market sense of things than just the pure gaming aspect of a good challenging game (I mean for crying out loud, they made it HARDER to execute the Instant Kill 'Destroyed' move).

I only play the X-series of GG to compensate for a more eye-candy gesture of gaming as well as enhanced sound quality and music but GG is still my most highly regarded jewel than what X or X2 (XX: Midnight Carnival if you will) could ever be.

If you're a GG fan, get the game I suppose but it really doesn't have that same appeal regardless of what you may think; the whole spiel just doesn't quite fit for me, but that's me. This may seem like I'm putting this game down more than I should be praising it but again, in design the game is great, outstanding even, but the concept runs short and 'sold out' as far as a good game goes.

When Guilty Gear first came out, I was stoked and hoping for a sequel that could turn GG over as a world-class hit in the gaming scene... The X-series came out and ... that's all it just about it, come out but it didn't turn anything over as I thought it would-- so I'm still waiting for that TRUE Guilty Gear sequel despite the cashcowing to whoever's selling the game out now... was Atlus? Now Sammy? Now it's someone else I believe right? Times change but I still hold hope for that one moment when GG will make a true return to its roots-- if Daisuke Ishiwatari is reading this and can read English, I hope you read them intently because a diehard fan is still waiting for a raging comeback to what I acclaim as one of the greatest fighting game franchises of all time. Period.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Just get it. Please.
Look, I could go on and on about it's zany characters, beautiful backgrounds, wonderfully drawn sprites, balanced characters, unique special attacks, absolutely phonomenal soundtrack, wonderful 'tension' system, etc etc etc...

But there's too much to say.

Just buy it. It's worth it.
