Amazon.com Review: Energy wars. Spy drones. Viruses. This is the world of MoonBase Commander, a place where high-tech battles are fought over scarce energy reserves. This game's constant aerial view of the action and emphasis on targeting and destroying enemy structures feels eerily like watching network news coverage of recent wars. This complex scenario will appeal to strategy-minded gamers. But players who like a little personalization in their fare will find MoonBase Commander a bit chilly.
That said, MoonBase Commander gets high scores on the "object of obsession" scale. Dozens of weapons and defense systems, modes of play ranging from single-player skirmishes to multiple-player online tournaments, and a function that allows replay and study of battles, ensure this game's staying power. A steep learning curve adds to the game's mystique. A terrain-editing feature also enhances play: if you grow tired of the environments the computer supplies for you, you can build your own. If you are an average person, expect to suffer total annihilation, over and over and over again, as you attempt to figure out your complex arsenal.
The object of the game is to gather energy on different planets using a hub that launches everything from drones to bombs to energy-collection units. Another company, or multiple other companies, attempt to exploit these energy resources at the same time, which is where the cluster bombs, viruses, and yes, electromagnetic pulses come in. The corporate entity that harvests the most energy wins. We have a feeling the designers at Humongous were aiming for a dark type of irony when they created this game.
Graphics and sound are tight, but the emphasis here is on the game. You won't find elaborate opening sequences, over-the-top animation, or (thank goodness) swooping camera angles. MoonBase Commander is kind of like a smart bomb: it dispatches its task with unnerving efficiency. (Ages 9 and older) --Anne Erickson

Rating: - Brilliant Game
This game is brilliant. A finely balanced set of units/weapons, terrain editor, team or free-for-all multiplayer games, clean (though simple) graphics, good sound, and IMMENSE depth of gameplay. We've been playing this multiplayer for almost a year now, and we're still not bored. Most games last around 30 minutes, with occasional hour-and-a-half games and the very sporadic 2-hour-or-more game. As a hardcore Starcraft, Warcraft 3, and Master of Orion 2 player, I'm not raving about this out of lack of experience with this type of game. It's just a solid game design. My gripe is that you can't save games and restart later. After a marathon 2 1/2 hour game on a huge map, we had to call it quits because it was 3 in the morning!
Rating: - Simple game, simple graphics, misnomer name.
This game has 1. nothing to do with the moon. 2. nothing to do with a base. You essentially play a 2 angle game. 1. decide what to build (some strategy involved) 2. GUESS at how to aim. That's it. It's not even as fun as the OLD freeware scorched earth. Get that instead.
Rating: - Is this a find for the blind!
I just bought moonbase commander last weekend and it definitely broke my heart. Its gameplay 100% weird and the graphics is 3d Cartoon! Dislikes: 1. You can choose weapons like missiles, mines etc. and using it would take you minutes to figure it out. You'd rather blow up your base first than the enemy coz the missiles just crazily hit your base! You have Towers that provide no defense but a mirror for a missile! Believe me this game is goners! You can choose between 3 teams that is simply alike and the terrain makes me vomit!...
Rating: - [Ted!!!] An Absolute Gamer
This game [is not good]! It's graphics is cartooned 3d which doesnt fit to the boring gameplay! The graphics gets a 1.5/5! i played it for about 10 minutes and it really made me mad coz what a waste of money! Dislikes: Its a shooting game in the moon which is crazily uncool! You can choose 3 teams which absolutely [not good]! Its graphics is cartooned 3d which is worse! Its detail suck which gets you minutes to get used to the weird game! I can't believe many people over rated this game when this game is not even better than supermario maybe theyre still using windows 95! Just dont forget id rather buy nothing than to buy this!
