Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Within the city, crisis and turmoil are an everyday, every second occurrence. When ordinary means of law enforcement are not an option, there is a group that is called upon to dole out justice to those that believe they are above the law. This highly-regarded and specially trained unit is SWAT. In SWAT 4, you are the element leader of an authentic Special Weapons and Tactics team within the big city where danger looms large. From intense hostage situations to Homeland Security threats, your SWAT team will tactically command each and every situation differently where a split second mistake could lead to failure.

Amazon.com Product Description:
Looking for a tactical shooter that asks you to do more than charge a building, guns a' blazin'? With a focus on sparing as many lives as possible, SWAT 4 not only raises the stakes, it raises the realism to a new level. Choose your loadout carefully and only go lethal when all else fails and the lives of innocents or a squad member are at stake.

In SWAT 4, you're the leader, nicknamed "Boss," and it's your job to command three other specialists through a variety of missions in every corner of a perilous, crime-infested city. Your special weapons and tactics squad consists of basic specialist types, an Assaulter, a Breacher, a Scout and a Non-lethal Specialist. These specialists can be customized to your tastes, and you can pick weapons that suit your mission objectives and plan. In keeping with SWAT 4's focus on non-lethal, life-preserving engagements, you can choose weapons such as tasers, flashbang grenades, and a bean bag-hurling shotgun. Of course, many situations turn hot, and the baddies you'll face will be well armed, so there is a complete selection of lethal firepower, as well.

Your missions will focus on neutralizing criminal elements and taking as many suspects into custody as possible. How you do that is up to you, but the game demands restraint, stealth and an eye for gaining the tactical advantage over opponents. You'll use items like the "Optiwand" to look around corners and under doors to scout for foes, before rushing in and subduing a suspect with pepper spray, CS gas or, if things turn ugly, live rounds. Be careful, though; killing innocents will end your mission immediately.

As squad leader, you make the ultimate calls about whether to enter rooms, open fire, or retreat. You'll command three other capable comrades with the only goal of keeping people alive. SWAT 4's intuitive command system will have you giving orders and organizing your team effectively in no time. All commands are contextual, meaning the game provides possible options depending on the situation you're in. This allows you to make decisions quickly, because when lives are at stake and the action heats up, one thing you don't have is a lot of time.

The SWAT franchise is well known for great multi-player action, and SWAT 4 is no exception. You can play online in one of three modes, Barricaded Suspects, V.I.P. Escort, or Rapid Deployment. Each mode comes with unique challenges and makes special demands on your powers of cooperation and command. Keep a cool head, and keep the body bags to a minimum.

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Difficult, but overall fantastic.
Very good in every way possible except in the area of difficulty. It's not impossible, but it does require much more stategical and tactical savvy than most games in order to even complete a level. A good challenge, but may be too hard for young teens/children or those new to first-person shooters. Those adept at playing Tom Clancy games like the Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon series, will have less trouble, but will probably not be used to the obstacle of civilians everywhere, thus not allowing them to shoot at people willy nilly. If one were to be too hesitant though, they would be quickly shot. So you see where a large part of the difficulty comes from.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great game with incredible COOP
This is one of the best first person shooters out there. There isn't any cohesive story or narrative that links the 10 different scenarios, but then again, that's not a guarantee in real life, either. The actual game play rewards careful planning and strategy. It isn't a game for people who want to run into a room, shoot everyone, and continue. The game's scoring at the end of each level encourages you to arrest the suspects, not kill them. This is accomplished by using the non-lethal weapons. Of course, this is only a factor in the single player and COOP. In multi player, you can feel free to take whatever gun you want and mow down the opposition. The COOP is by far the best aspect of this game. You can team up with 10 people to take on the single player or any fan made missions. The levels all feel unique and are designed appropriately. Office buildings have big conference rooms. Garages have cars. Banks have those unnecessary rooms where they tell you that your loan was declined. Everything feels right. Enemies have random placements in each level, so you can't just memorize where everyone is and proceed. You have to proceed with caution no matter how many times you've done a level.
Overall, this is one of my favorite first person shooters. The only disappointment I had was that you can't use a sniper rifle in multi player, but thats just until someone adds one as a mod.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great game
kill the bad guys, save the public. Put that on my police car not that protect and serve bs. Grear graphics, great sound and great atmosphere. Mission 2 absolves me for macing that old lady in 1995, its mainstream now.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - He won't stop playing it!
I bought this game for my husband for Christmas, as well as the expansion pack, and he won't stop playing it! He has owned all of the other Swat games in the past and says this one is his favorite by far. I haven't played it myself, but he says it's worth every star it can get!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - No run and Shooter...very very fun!
SWAT4 is a great game. I like the ability to direct my squad
to do various things. This is no run and shoot-em up game, but
requires you to think and evaluate a situation,to determine
what is the best thing to do to protect you, your squad and the
innocent civilians. You achieve the best scores after completing
missions,if you use lethal force as a last resort, when suspect resist arrest and become violent. I recommend this game along with Ghost Recon, and Full Spectrum Warrior. These are other
great squad based first person shooter games.

Also if u have a subscription to Fileplanet.com,you can download the Realism Mod for this game, which add real weapon statistics and real situation set ups.
