Product Description: Grand Theft Auto 3 has you in a new adventure in the seedy underworld of Liberty City! Avoid damage and bad weather to get away clean, or else!
Amazon.com Review: With Grand Theft Auto III, Rockstar proves that not all developers are concerned with toning down the violence in their games. This sequel is even more bloody, violent, and sadistic than its popular predecessors, offering up an enormous 3-D city in which nearly any criminal act is possible. Players are free to steal cars, beat up the local population for their money (or weapons), make time with prostitutes, or simply roam to their heart's content. Those seeking more structure can embark on dozens of plot-driven missions or steal cars that let them play minigames. Nab a cop car and you can go on vigilante missions. Grab a cab and you can play a deadly version of Crazy Taxi. Take a fire truck and you can earn money putting out fires. The game just never gets boring.
As in real life, there are consequences for your criminality. As your random acts of mayhem mount up, the police start hounding you, eventually calling in SWAT trucks, the FBI, and even the army if you continue down the path of destruction. Shaking these pursuers is easily the most fun part of the game, especially when a bunch of friends are packed in the room to witness your narrow escapes.
Grand Theft Auto III is fine-tuned to near perfection in every category. All the vehicles, from slick sports cars to lumbering dump trucks, handle exactly as you'd expect and smash apart realistically when abused. The three islands in the game are rendered in terrific detail considering their size, and are packed with traffic, pedestrians, and hidden jumps. The audio is equally amazing. Pedestrians talk, cops scream at you, and you can tune in nine different radio stations whenever you are in a car. It all adds up to a monumental achievement: the rare console game for adults that manages to get everything right. --T. Byrl Baker
Pros:
Offers an enormous world for players to exploit, rendered in staggering detail
Equally fun whether you go on plot-based missions or run around as a freelance crook
Cons:
Ultraviolence, foul language, and adult situations mean you'll want to keep this far away from kids
It takes too long to get from one island to another, making some missions tedious
Amazon.com Product Description: You've been betrayed and left for dead. Now you're taking revenge, unless the city gets you first. Mob bosses need a favor, crooked cops need help, and street gangs want you dead. You'll have to rob, steal, and kill just to stay out of serious trouble. Anything can happen out here. Grand Theft Auto III features a fully 3-D living city, a combination of narrative-driven and nonlinear gameplay, and a completely open environment.
Players are put at the heart of their very own gangster movie, in which anything can happen and probably will. With a cast of hundreds, 50-plus vehicles--including sports cars, ice-cream trucks, boats, and buses--three hours of music, (including opera, reggae, house, drum and bass, pop, and disco), a huge array of street-ready weapons, and some of the seediest characters in video game history, Grand Theft Auto III is a sprawling epic that will show you that sometimes crime can pay, and that sometimes it pays you back.

Rating: - its ok...but its missing a lot
i got this game when it originally came out and it was a good time, i had a blast with the free roaming ability, however there are things that get tiresome and more noticeable especially after playing vice city and san andreas - negatives to me are: repetitive soundtrack after awhile, character has no personality, the twist in the middle of the game that makes you change allegiances, the mission to kill a certain mafia boss that forces you to be precise with a one bullet sniper shot otherwise ur dead takes the fun out of the mission...i should be able to stand on the corner and just blaze with armor on and see what happens using my machine gun and grenades, the handling of the cars is rough at times and they blow up too easily...i could go on, but the story just doesn't impress me...its a lot of fun to roam but the story does little to make me want to continue pass the plot twist
Rating: - Ambitious
This game is just pure fun. If you want to, you can follow the story line which is fantastic by the way, or you can run wild doing whatever you want. If you're bored a fun thing to do is see how long you can outrun the police. There's so much hidden stuff in this game to add to the fun and make it feel more special. Who can forget spawning a tank, then turning the turret around to propel it over the bridge to the next zone that you really haven't unlocked yet? The list goes on and on with things to do. The story is interesting with many plot twists and psychotic missions. At the same time, they start you out small to make you feel like you're really progressing through the crime world. The music is great, and the radio channels are hilarious. There is some good humor throughout the game. The only negatives are the graphics, which are forgivable considering the scope of the game, and the difficulty. The difficulty curve is a bit on the harsh side once you move on to the second island and join up with the Yakuza. Especially the missions titled "Grand Theft Auto" Those are nearly impossible at times, as ironic as that sounds. Simply a great game, if you haven't checked it out yet, you should.

Rating: - GTA III Rocks
I love GTA III. I just recently got a PlayStation 3 and even though this is a PS 2 game it plays fine. I'd recommened this game if you like a lot of action.
Rating: - Fun, but very violent!
It's funny to listen to all the anti-violence advocates on here trying to ban games likes gta
HEY IDIOTS!:
why don't u try to take a stand against real violence acts? idk if you know this, but with or without GTA3 violence happens everyday. Lemme fill ya in, no innocent kids ever played this game and turned into charlie manson or ed gein okay?! if people didn't already like violence they wouldn't all go buy Grand Theft Auto would they? and there is never an instance where the game says: 'go kill a hooker', that is brought on entirely by whomever the player is. i dont kill hookers and shoot innocent people in my game cuz i don't want to but... if i did it wouldn't matter anyway cuz they're not real!!!! it is too far of a stretch to say that a game can be interpreted as REALITY. the us courts agree with me. now listen up cuz i'm only gunna say it once,
IF YOU PLAY THIS GAME AND THEN DECIDE ITS OK TO KILL IN REAL LIFE, YOU'RE CRAZY! the game doesn't brain wash you. i'm sorry, but regular smart non-retarded people like myself can play a game like this and not equate to to real-life. nuff said.
basically, it's an open environment game in which you must do missions to advance but the game play is completely non-linear. you can spend time cruising around town speeding thru traffic and going off jumps, or you can try to take on liberty city's police force. either way all good cuz it's just FANTASY. apparently some people have trouble telling the difference between this and reality
