Amazon.com Review:
Visual Concepts created a huge stir with the original NFL 2K--the first football video game that actually looked like you were watching a game on TV. NFL 2K2, the third game in the series, still features the mind-boggling graphics, stunning player animations, and great play modes of the original. And, despite an often frustrating passing engine, it's still one of the best sports simulations around.

You can play as any NFL team in a variety of modes: practice, tourney, exhibition, season, playoffs, franchise, fantasy, tutorial, and network (against up to seven other players nationwide). The franchise mode is again one of the game's strengths, as it offers a variety of scouting and free agency options, letting you customize your roster as a general manager based on the statistics and financial demands of actual players. Now you can learn what the Washington Redskins already know--the salary cap is a cruel mistress.

The player animations are again the star of the show. There are literally dozens of potential endings to any collision in NFL 2K2, from stumbling five yards after a shoestring tackle to spinning dizzily between two linebackers to somersaulting through the air after stretching for a catch over the middle. And although the tackles can be spectacular, the game doesn't betray its simulation roots by making them too extreme. These aren't torn from the comics pages, as in some games.

Sega Sports has talked up its new passing system quite a bit, and it is both challenging and intriguing--perfect for the hard-core simulation expert. Unfortunately, the rest of us are left struggling to complete 5 to 10 passes a game. Essentially, the game asks players to expertly anticipate routes and time the receiver's catch. This is no easy task in a fast-moving game such as this, as receivers routinely drop wide-open passes on the rare occasions they do get open, and you'll find your primary receiver blanketed by two or more defensive backs on most plays. The passing engine isn't overwhelmingly flawed, but average gamers will need some serious time to overcome the Ravens-like pass defense they'll face early on.

The running game was the original NFL 2K's main weakness, and it remains the single biggest improvement over the evolution of the series. Sometimes running between the tackles in NFL 2K2 can be a tad too easy and running outside can be too challenging, but the game rewards players who see holes develop and are adept at cutbacks.

It's the small details, though, that make NFL 2K2 the sports simulation triumph that it is. The commentary--although still prone to calling turnovers incorrectly--is first rate, the on-field player dialogue is highly entertaining, and even the stadium music and crowd chants add to the atmosphere rather than annoy.

The game isn't necessarily worth an upgrade for people who already own NFL 2K1, as the improvements aren't dramatic (unless updated rosters are your main concern). But for football fans who want one of the best-looking sports simulations ever made--and who don't mind the initial frustration of lousy quarterback ratings--NFL 2K2 is a Hail Mary come true. --Rivers Janssen

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - simply the best

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fun but lots of room to improve
THE GOOD
Physics and control are almost perfect
The load times are kept to a bare minimum
Announcers are not annoying
The franchise mode
As fun as football gets

THE BAD
Stat tracking is very innaccurate (especially your punter)
Pro Bowl tracking isn't even close to accurate sometimes
It's either too easy or too hard, middle difficulty is still easy
DB's [bad] at picking off the ball and play the ball even if his back is facing to the play
Announcers repeat and contradict themselves constantly

I love this game and recommend this to anyone

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - NFL 2k2 FAQS/Comments
The main reason bought this game is for the online plau and the fantasy draft that you can play offline. The isnt hard offline enless you play with ALL PRO which isnt super hard just like the REAL NFL. Hell I can beat the Oakland Raiders with Cencenatti Bengals. For those of you think its impossible to catch and get away from the d-line then use the Vikings since they are the games mascot you can see Randy Moss on the front of the cover so if you play with the Vikings you ell basically hae to try you can throw to Cris Carter since this man has a excelent catch he never drops even when he ges tackled just right he stll holds onto the ball.

One my favorite things about this game is the ability to throw bullets or pop ups its your choice but pop ups are more likely to be intercepeted. Bullets are the best to avoid a defender also note if you try hail mary a bullet it will be pretty crooked far reach from the reciever. The best team to do hail marys is the Rams and Vikings since they have atleast one fast reciever and when there fast you just chuck that ball way out there like a 70 yard throw and you think you over throw to Randy Moss or Isacc Bruce but they smoke almost all dbs and wide open to make the catch if it isnt overthrown.

The graphice are amazin like NFL 2k1 all the same moves but require strategy since they canged the way they juke. Well in nfl2k1 you can just pull a juke move and most likely joke al the time with a group of deffender you can get away with this is what [made me mad] in NFl2k1. Now we have NFL2k2 and wel none of the Bullcrap no more since when you sped you recver or running back sows down to make the spins or break the tackle.

My most favorite thing is to to a Full NFL Fantasy Draft. i like to choose my players win by one witht he cpu alos taking a few of the good ones makes it challenging and in th eend you can see your stats for yu off and def then you start a fl seaon with the players you choosen the they keep track off eerything including who goes to the probowl.

The online play is great! The only thing is when you play with someone your connection affects the game in a way like when you throw the ball to a wide reciever he most likey drop it since the people online just tackle them before it happens I have done it too but when i do it offline its pass interfernce maybe this happens because of 56k modem since I have gotten way with that tackle the guy to make hiim drop trick. Well the online is pretty good if your isp is good has a ranking system and also keeps track of how many wins and losses you have.

I give NFL2k2 4 stars since the online play. I never like it when people quit when are about to get a win.

Wow! Graphics, lifelike, exciting, and unbelievable, only describe half of this game. Sega has done it better than before.
This game is so true to life, I could "feel" myself hitting the turf after a spectacular catch! The play selection could be a challenge if you are not sports savy. However, after a few plays, it gets easier. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to give it a 11!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - This game beats Madden
when it comes to tackles. The tackles come with great sound effect too. However, it falls short on game options that let you play with old teams and legendary players like Madden. Also this game is buggy on some parts. Sega still has a long way to go to make this a complete game like Madden, but the game play is better than Madden.
