Amazon.com Review:
Whether you're the Pokémon or GoldenEye 007 variety of gamer, this Toys "R" Us exclusive gold Nintendo 64 bundle is sure to provide hours upon hours of gaming luxury. The console is sealed in a shiny, gold-colored case and comes with two gold-colored controllers. The limited-edition gold Nintendo 64 bundle is available only while supplies last, and it is only available at Toys "R" Us stores and here at Amazon.com.

Nintendo first dabbled in video games during the industry's early years of the mid-'70s. Generations of successful gaming console releases through the years led to the much-hyped 1996 launch of Nintendo 64, a system that represented a giant evolutionary leap in video game technology. Within the first three days of launch, hundreds of thousands of gamers hunkered down with Mario 64, considered by many one of the greatest video games ever created. Even today, the system's excellent design continues to host an ever-expanding library of breakthrough games.

Nintendo 64's popularity among younger gamers is no surprise. Well-respected games featuring such long-lived and much-loved personalities as Mario (of arcade classic Donkey Kong fame), Zelda, and the bird and bear duo of Banjo-Kazooie are easy to learn and offer enormous replay value. But the times they are a-changin', and the system's ever-growing library of titles has expanded into every genre of games imaginable, including games better suited for older gamers. In fact, some of the most acclaimed--and in some cases, groundbreaking--games available on any platform today are packed onto N64's old-school cartridges.

Under the system's hood, its appeal to the young certainly didn't produce a less mature gaming machine. On the contrary, the 64-bit system boasts impressive graphics, stereo sound, and numerous accessory enhancements, including a high-resolution pack that boosts graphics to awe-inspiring resolutions.

Start your library with GoldenEye 007, Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Star Wars: Episode I, Racer. These titles represent a decent start to any N64 cartridge library.

With the recent launches of 128-bit systems, Nintendo 64 is being left behind as the leader in video game technology. And with newer game systems featuring CD-based games, the system's expensive cartridge format is proving itself an archaic and unconventional storage format. But the system's sub-$110 recommended retail price for a console with two controllers, innovative accessory enhancements, and a great library of games will keep the Nintendo 64's rabid fan base satisfied, if not eager for Nintendo's next evolutionary step. --Eric Twelker

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Nothing special
The Gold set is nothing to look at. Nintendo just makes a gold color as a way to make money. Gold is expensive and a gold color ninendo system just makes the price more expensive. Buy the regular black nintendo 64 console and save the hassle of the gold coming off while playing. If sweat does get on it the gold starts to come off which makes your controller look bad.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A normal Nintendo in a different colour
First, let me get this straight, I'm not giving this five stars because it's gold, but because it's a Nintendo 64. I would give the black one five stars also, the colour doesn't make a difference. It doesn't play better games or anything. Or in other words: "I'm not rating the colour, but the Nintendo". I love Nintendo 64's. It's got great games. The best ones are Super Mario 64, which was one of the first ones created, but it's a great 3D adventure where you have to get all 120 stars, all of the International Superstar Soccer series, Legend of Zelda: Ocarana of Time and Majora's Mask, Donkey Kong 64, Paper Mario, Mario Party 1, 2, and 3, Tony Hawk, Pro Skater 1 and 2, and Mario Tennis with many more great games that I haven't played.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - What! This is not the first gold controler!
I got a Nintendo64 when they first came out. Unlike this gold N64 this is not the true gold controler. When Nintendo lauched N64 in a few of them was the orginal gold controler. This "new" gold controler is cheap and the paint comes of easily. I would not recommend this to anyone except if it is your first N64. If you are looking for the true gold controler, good luck because they are rare, or you can call me at 203-629-9381.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - DA GOLD COMES OFF
LOOK I DONT WANT TO B BAD OR NE THING BU THE GOLD WILL COME OFF IF SWEAT GETS ON IT AND U WON'T BE ABLE 2 CLEAN IT UP IT WILL TURN BLACK THATS IT U SHOULDN T BUY THIS

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - n64 goes gold
This bundle was originall ONLY offered in japan (at toys r us of course) but now even as gamecube and gameboy advance are on the way there is still reason to buy this set.Zelda has been put out on gold colored carts and this set features the n64 zelda's gold color. i'm buying it for this reason and because there WON'T be another gold zelda cart for a home system EVER EVER AGAIN . That's why this set's a must have set for me! zelda forever!!(2 controlers are a real plus systems usually only have 1 in the box leaving u to buy extra pads yourself)
