Amazon.com Review: From the second you plug this game into your Game Boy Color, it's apparent that Pokémon Puzzle Challenge is essentially the Tetris Attack that was released some time ago for the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy systems.
Pokémon characters abound; your young cousin or little sister should be able to rattle off many of their names effortlessly. The game is designed for young gamers, and encourages problem solving--something that all parents should want their children to learn while playing a game. Thankfully, the game controls are easy to pick up, and the tasks are easy to execute.
For a puzzle game, this one has a good number of gameplay options and modes. Puzzle University looks simple, at first, but it proves to be a real brainteaser. In this mode, you must clear the entire screen in a limited number of moves--a twist that makes the game surprisingly addictive. It's good to see that Pokémon Puzzle Challenge has made some minor improvements on the now-classic game of Tetris.
Naturally, the graphics are better on the Nintendo 64 version; but, if you've got a long ride planned, or that plane's been delayed, this game will turn hours into minutes. If you're looking for a family-friendly title for all of the Game Boy Color users in your family, look no further than Pokémon Puzzle Challenge. --Todd Mowatt
Pros:
Challenging and extremely addictive Tetris variant
Fun for just about anyone
Cons:
Repetitive voice samples quickly become annoying
Amazon.com Product Description: Pokémon Puzzle League builds on the simple yet challenging gameplay of Tetris Attack. Colored blocks appear from the bottom of the screen; to make them disappear, players must line up three blocks of the same color by switching any two side-by-side blocks. Players can compete against the computer via a split screen, or against a friend via the separately sold Game Link Cable. Creating chain reactions of matches will toss blocks into your opponent's screen. The game features characters from Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. Also, Pokémon Puzzle League's battery-save feature will remember the layout and your position, should your Game Boy Color be turned of in the middle of a game.

This game is, to say the least, Addictive With A Capital "A".
It might seem hard when you start playing (I know it was for me; I got stuck at one point in Easy Mode the first time around), but it becomes much much easier over time. However, I've had it for give or take a few years and bits of it still escape me (i.e. how to get Sentret, how to beat the thing in less than 25 seconds, etc. etc.). Oh well, I expect I'll figure those bits out too.
One more thing: do NOT play this at night if you can't sleep. I did this once, and for about two days afterwards, whenever I stared at the wall, I saw puzzle designs. True story.
And you will probably like this game if you like Tetris.
Rating: - Fun, fun, fun!
Don't be turned off by the cutesy Pokemon theme. This is "Tetris Attack" (from the SNES), but with lots of extra modes. The creators took advantage of the Pokemon world to create some neat challenge modes. This game is extremely addictive. I recommend playing this on a Gameboy Advance SP so that you'll have a lighted screen. If not, you may have some eye strain trying to see the small blocks.
Rating: - ADDICTIVE!
This game will steal your soul. I'm not kidding. I turned it on once, planning to only play for a few minutes, and ended up glued to the spot (possibly drooling) for the remainder of the day. I might have fossilized if it hadn't been time for dinner.
But there's a downside as well. It's very hard. My 11-year-old sister, a much more rabid Pokemon fan than myself, has informed me of the different ways to play the game so as to win the "extra Pokemon" (Sentret, Marrill, etc.) but it is almost impossible to do so. I have had the game for over a year and have still not managed to win Sentret. Still, it's not as if I'm going to stop trying. (Read: it's not as if I CAN stop trying.) :-)
Rating: - finally, a game I can play!
We had purchased the Gameboy Advance a year ago, along with Mario, F-Zero and a few other titles. Those games just about killed the fun of the GBA machine. My 6 year old could never advance far enough and then I couldn't get her past the stages, so the GBA didn't get much use. Then I bought this game and some others for an upcoming trip and this game, Pokemon Puzzle Challenge is a winner. No getting stuck on a spot and then getting killed and having to start over. The variety on this Pokemon game is great and I really enjoy it. It looked great on the GBA system also. We also purchased the Puyo Pop, and although it is kind of similar in idea, it was a game my daughter liked and has stuck with. That one is a little harder to learn, but when it clicks, it is an easy concept and by changing the levels of difficulty, you can suit it to your own level(I live on the EASY level!). Even if you aren't into Pokemon, this is a fine game. I ignore the pokemon figures, much to my daughters dismay, and it has no effect on gameplay.
Rating: - Fun even if you hate pokemon!
Graphics: 9.5/10- everything looks great, but there's not much to screw up when you just have colorful boxes. Sound: 8/10-the music wasn't that bad...but the pokemon noises got annoying after a while. Control: 10/10- super easy to learn Replay value: 10/10- ENDLESS FUN Over all: 9.5/10- super game...buy it
This is a great puzzle game, and i can see it as a future classic. Personally, i don't like pokemon, but this puzzle game is SO fun I forgot it had anything to do with pokemon(dont ask me how I managed that). One thing that got to me was the sounds the pokemon make when you do special moves...these get quite irritating after a while. BUT, in the options menu you can turn off the pokemon sounds without turning off all the other sounds, or if you hate all the sounds that would be why you have a volume control ^_~. Overall, this game is a must have filled with endless funn...BUY IT!!!
