Editorial Review: With a fighting mode, four mini-games, and a stand-alone role-playing game (RPG), Ehrgeiz is essentially six games for the price of one. First, duke it out as one of 10 playable characters (3 of which are from the popular RPG Final Fantasy VII) in hand-to-hand and weapons-based combat. There are 11 different fighting environments to tackle, including a moving train and a hovering airship. Ehrgeiz scores points for diversity. The arsenal of warriors is comprised of various ages, nationalities, and sexes--all of whom are eager to win the ultimate fighting championship. The prize is a mysterious weapon (the strangely dubbed Ehrgeiz). There are a gazillion moves to memorize, and the fluid movement and fantastic secret weapons provide great eye candy.
In addition to fighting, players will also encounter mini-games, such as the foot race "Battle Beach" and strategy game "Battle Panel" (think Othello). This game also contains several elements that will be instantly familiar to RPG fans. Ehrgeiz may not satisfy gamers who want a dedicated RPG or fighting game, but it does offer a diverse range of gameplay for the casual gamer with a limited attention span. --Carrie Bell
Pros:
Fighter movement animation is impressive
Final Fantasy connection will appeal to RPG fans
Diverse gameplay
Cons:
Numerous special moves impose a steep learning curve, and demand a good memory

Rating: - FFVII carried an average game over the top
I owned (past tense because i lost it) this game when it first came out because i was able to control FFVII characters in a different atmosphere. Now with the release of Crisis Core i purchased the game again to re-live that feeling. And once again i had a lot of fun fighting Sepheroth vs Zack, and other various combinations. But i realized that if FF characters were not an option, i wouldn't think twice about this game. I was also a little dissapointed at Cloud's face, it didn't look the same as it does in FFVII. Some of their second costumes are so stupid, with the exception of Vincent. But Tifa & Cloud's 3rd costume are great.
Overall the game is fun, but only because of the FFVII characters. Without them, i would find this game in the $3 bin.
Rating: - A Great Pasttime Bought Back To Life
Ah, the wonderful memories of the past are streaming back. I grew up on this game and when it had to be sold, I was crushed. However, now that I have a hold of it again, I'm all better :). This game is great for anyone who wants a fighting game that includes FF7 characters for the first time that I know of in the states. An A+ game!
Rating: - Great game!
This truly is a marvel of fighter/rpg games. As mentioned, yes it is great for all of you fans out there for RPG games such as Final Fantasy, but the RPG side of this is great, too. One of the only things I didn't like about it which soon grew on me was how you could always go back into an area and there would still be guys there you killed beforehand. That was because at the time I did not take into consideration how much experience to level up that gave :)
However, the only other thing I didn't like was how there wasn't an available 2 player RPG mode for this. And yeah, that's true, people overlooked this game all the time because it was not popular like "Tekken" or something of that nature, but so what? People only go for what's popular, that's disappointing. Quality is my main concern, and this game definitely gets my vote for quality. (Graphics not included, though this game was well for its time).
~Graphics do not make a game good, storyline does.~
