Rating: - Rare, hidden gem... a masterpiece
Often rare and overlooked, this game is actually a rerendered "Turrican III" from the Amiga computer systems.
Turrican was a video/computer game series that was an underground favorite among the industry. Thanks to one of my friends, he convinced me to buy Super Turrican and its Sega Genesis counterpart, Mega Turrican...
...to which I say WHY DIDN'T I GET THIS GAME BEFORE?!
This hidden gem of a game has some of the superb graphics I've seen on the system. The music (contributed by Chris Huelsbeck) is stellar and almost CD quality. I'm surprised he hasn't done film scoring. The basic plot of the game is that you play a robotic/humanoid character in his quest to save the world of Katakis, which has been taken over by "The Machine." The game doesn't really delve into the plot much, but it doesn't have to; with sharp music, impressive oldskool-ish gameplay, excellent graphics (for the time, they were state-of-the-art), and extroadinary level designs, this game doesn't fail to please.
If you own a Super NES, I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU GET THIS GAME. It's very challenging, but it's a grand amount of fun. Why it's so rare is beyond me. Even more so is the sequel. In any case, they're usually cheap on Amazon or at a pawn shop. Your Super NES library should not be without this game. A classic in the platform genre and an essential to your SNES library.
