Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I really don't understand why... there is no sequel!!!!
Seriously, I played this game in highschool when it first came out. The secrets are legendary, the graphics were state of the art CGI for its time, the characters are classic... so why hasn't this been re-released for the gameboy advance as all the other good super nes games have. Where is it on the virtual console? And most importantly, where is the sequel for the WII or the DS. Come on now- Square and Nintendo settle your differences and produce another game that will be on par with Kingdom Hearts.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A game that will never leave you.
Not only is this one of the greatest RPGs on the SNES it is one of the greatest RPGs ever, and one of the greatest games ever! Made by SquareSoft who also made the famouse Final Fantasy series.
This game has a fresh, simple, awesome story that consists of Mario and his crew (Bowser, Peach, Mellow, Geno) having to save the mushroom kingdom from Smithy who has plans in destroying Mario's land. The story has many side quests and more memerable characters than most 16bit games could have ever had, and the game was funny and all of the characters had an interesting personallity.
Gamplay- Super Mario RPG had a battle system like Final Fantasy only with some improvements that got you more involved in the fighting. The game had its share of platforming elements that were just okay, but didnt take anything away from the game. There were some puzzles, but nothing to challenging.
Graphics- By far one of the best looking games for the SNES. It kinda had a Donkey Kong Country look to it, but more polished and unique.
Sound- Some of the sound effects match the sound effects in other Mario games, like if you jump on a Goomba it makes the same sound. The music in the game was awesome, and dont be shocked if you find yourself humming some of the lines to yourself.

All in all the game is near perfect in my oppinion, and I would love to see a real sequel one of these days.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best Mario Game Ever!
This was one on SNES' last games before N64 took over and the graphics are amazing for SNES. It did not become very popular because most people were focused on N64 at the time. The game is about Mario and his faithful companions fighting there way to Bowser's Catsle, which has been taken over by an extraterrestrial named Smithy. The game introduces two new playable characters, Mallow and Geno, and allows you to play two other never-before-played characters, Bowser and Princess Toadstool. The battles are awesome and usually difficult if you progress at the right pace. Near the end of the game, the battles become longer and more difficult with battles like the Axem Rangers (a fun poke at the Power Rangers) and of course, Smithy himself, who is in my opinion extremely tough as it is a two part battle that can last for up to an hour. There are also neat features in the game like a mine cart ride, a beetle chase, and composing music via tadpoles. There are secrets like a bigger fireworks show and a final fantasy battle hidden in one of the towns. A worthwhile game that you should never let go of.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Pretty good rpg
This was an entertaining game. It took me about a month to finish it. It is one of the best SNES games, but unlike my other favorite SNES games, I don't plan on replaying this one. In the rpg category, the SNES games Chrono Trigger and The Legend of Zelda are much better; their storylines are more interesting and their music isn't so annoying. In addition, the Super Mario RPG battles are generally too long and boring. Another downside is that 3D movements are awkward with the 4-way arrow pad of the controller, and some of the 3D graphics are confusing. I'd recommend this game if you've already finished Zelda, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy, and are looking for something else to do.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great fun and a great game too...
(Possible spoilers)

-Super Mario RPG is a very good to great RPG and was one of if not the last game for the SNES and the makers of the game went all out for this one.

-The graphics are superb, rich in color and look nice in the 3D esque format.

-The story is basic but good, the Star Road is destoryed by a group called "The Smithy Gang" and now wishes can't come true anymore. Well here's Mario to the rescue along with some new companions.

-There's Mallow: A cloud creature who thinks he's a frog because he was raised by a wise old frog named Frogfucious (sp?). Mallow can cast Lightning and other spells. A good but the second least useful chracter in the game as the game goes on.

-Geno: A character from the Star Road itself who has come down and taken the form of a kid's doll to help repair the Star Road. He can cast many spells, the best being Geno Boost, which strengthens a characters attack and defense during battle. Pretty useful one here.

-Toadstool: Anyone whose anyone should be familiar with her. She can cast numerous and useful healing spells and also a bomb attack, which damages the entire field of enemies. Very useful in my opinion.

-Bowser: That's right, Mario's mortal enemy, joins up to try and stop "Smithy" or maybe just to get his castle back, but whatever. I don't really care for Bowser, he's strong (a major plus) but his magic is kinda weak, therefore I don't really use him that much.

-Mario: To be honest Mario's usefulness is middle ground, he's not the worst character but probably only the third or maybe second best. But since you can't switch him out for other party members (it has to be Mario and two others) he's not a bad one to have. His strength is good, his maigc really shines, like his Super and Ultra Jump and his Flames attacks.

-The game itself is a lot of fun, albeit on the easy side a little too often. The worlds look very good, the world map looks a little cutesy and silly. There are plenty of worlds to go through and you must find seven star pieces from the Star Road to repair it, to do this you must visit almost all parts of the world.

-There are also plenty of hidden treasue chests throughout the game, some are hidden in obvious locations (like in the corner of a room) while some require some searching. Treasures range from frog coins to flowers.

-The magic system is pretty good too. You gradually earn spells for each character as they gain levels and you can also earn flower points, including flowers in treasure chests (1 point), Flower Tabs from characters and some fights (1 point), Flower Jars which comes usually after a boss fight or you accomplish a big task (3 points) and Flower Boxes that come after a big boss fight (5 points). You can have a total of 99 Flower points.

-The bosses are pretty easy for the most part once you figure out their patterns. The only real challenges come towards the end of the game, when your trying to get the sixth and seven star pieces. To get the seventh and final one you need to beat Smithy and that's a bit of a tough one there.

-The battle system is different to say the least. Like the game during world play, the battles have a 3/4 perspective and allow you to select your battle choice by pushing a particular button. For example, A-attacks, Y-Magic, B-Defense and X-Item. The system used is very cool actually.

Pros:

-The gameplay is cool and fun, and doesn't get too boring or repetitive.

-The graphics are great and rich.

-There's some good humor throughout the game.

-The battle system is unique and cool.

-It's just a blast to play for hours on end, though if you play it right it should only take 10-15 hours, if you search for a lot of the treasures that is.

Cons:

-It is pretty easy too often.

-A lot of the enemies look the same but are just a different shade of color and a lot of times don't have different attacks.

-Like others have said the music during the battles is very annoying. It's the same music over and over, it never changes.

-It's almost too easy to get a lot of flower points quickly.

-Overall, this is a very good game, the pros far, far exceed the cons. Once you fire this game up you'll be sitting down playing for hours.
