Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The First In An Awesome Trilogy!
Back in 1995, it looked like Capcom was running out of ideas for its cash crop known as Street Fighter. There were already 5 different installments of Street Fighter 2 (World Warrior, Champion Edition, Turbo, SSF2, and SSF2 Turbo). The idea of a Street Fighter 2 PREQUEL was born and here is Street Fighter Alpha. SFA brings in the classic SF2 characters (Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Sagat, and M.Bison), 2 characters that were present in Street Fighter 1 but were not playable (Birdie and Adon), imports 2 characters from Final Fight (Sodom and Guy), and introduces 4 new characters (Rose, Charlie, Dan, and Akuma). Many of the new characters are tied somehow to SF2 characters (Charlie was Guile's best friend, Sagat killed Dan's father, Adon was Sagat's disciple, you get the idea).

The Super Combo is back in all of its multi-hit, shadow-trailing glory. This game takes the concept of the Super Combo (introduced by SSF2 Turbo) and takes it up a notch. Now, characters have 2 or more Super Combos, and the Super Meter has 3 levels. All of the classic characters have either beefed up or additional Special Moves.

The music is basically J-pop/jazz/house remixes of SF2 music, but it sounds pretty good, and the animation is much different but much better than the old animation. The SFA animation looks more anime-like (as it should). This game was definitely a step in the right direction.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The birth of a new Street Fighter series !
Originally called Street Fighter Zero in Japan. Street Fighter Alpha was the first Street Fighter game with stunning anime-style 2D graphics and a new and improved fighting engine with the same great gameplay balance. Now players will be allowed to do more than just one super move. They will be able to do two or three, depending on the character. And yes, Ryu and Ken are still here. Besides, what's Street Fighter without those two ? In case some of you didn't know, Street Fighter Alpha is a prequel to all of the Street Fighter titles. It tells us about the events that happened before Street Fighter II. Before M. Bison's countless murders (including the death of Chun-Li's father), before Ken gets married with his newfound girlfriend Eliza, before everything. This game will take you back a few years when familiar faces Ken, Ryu, and Chun-Li were a bit younger (probably in their mid 20's). They will be introduced to new fighters like Birdie, Charlie, Rose, and other familiar faces, including the wreckless killing machine, M. Bison. Anyway, enough with the boring stuff. When this game came out in the arcades at 1995, it immediately became a favorite to all Street Fighter fans, old and new. When it released to the PlayStation and Sega Saturn, they sold well in the market. the only flaw in this game was the loading times. That's something you'll just love to hate. And the more you had enough of loading times, you'll want to spare some money at the arcades and play the Arcade version of Street Fighter Alpha. But still, Street Fighter Alpha is a unique Street Fighter experience. And I highly reccomend to every Street Fighter fan to get this game if you can find it. It's extremely rare, so you'll have to order online or go to your local retailer. If you want to play other SF Alpha titles, play Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Street Fighter Alpha 3 is still the best among the Alpha series). Long live Street Fighter !

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A classic Street Fighter that should not be missed
The moment I bought a Playstation when it was first released, I was very pleased to hear that Capcom was going to make a Street Fighter game to come out. After all, the SF series are indeed the ones responsible for bringing the fighting genre into where it is today. It used to be the niche market, but thanks to Street Fighter II's efforts, the fighting genre skyrocketed to a whole new level. The reason behind it all is easy to understand. Street Fighter Alpha has what its younger brethern has; Classic gameplay, excellent graphics, and some good techno music. Old fighters, like Ken and Ryu, returned for another round while new fighters, such as Sodom or Dan (a joke character), enters the fray. The battlegrounds are simply great (in it's time), but now look unpolished, but that's because I'm comparing this to other fighting games, such as Soul Calibur or Dead Or Alive 2. However, don't let these graphics fool you! It's the gameplay that counts, and Capcom delivers! I'm glad that I'm ordering my copy soon. You should purchase yours when the time comes!
