Rating: - Another...
Another lousey boring basketball game. where do they come up with these games. this game was stupid.
Rating: - More than 10 years after its release still da Bomb!!!
Iv'e been around videogaming quite some years now and i must say NBA Hangtime still, more then ten years after its release, is the best game iv'e ever played! Real live characters such as Dennis Rodman (with changable haircollors!) Patrick Ewing and Gary Payton are displayed hilaricaly realistic but still (deu to the just a little to big heads) caricutaristic.
Next to the real live players there is also the option to create your own character!!! Take your pick out of diferent figurine's like a yellow chicken, a green marsian or even a real live wherewolf! Then pick a nickname out of a list with hilarical name's like cuckoo, spanky or mad dog! Adjust your specialties and abilities (which increase after winning more game's) and game on!!!
Gameplay is fast and fun. No gamerules, foulcalling and freethrows here but an hilarical over the top 2 on 2 batlle for the ball complete with shoving over opponents, alley oops, double dunks and teamfire!!!
The ingame play by play comments by Bulls announcer Neal Funk are just as hilarical as the rest of the game with calls like "get that outer here!!!", "What a disaster!!!", "Is that legal???" and "What was heee thinking???"
On the overal soundpart there is not much to complain either. A booming rap presented by M-Dogg together with all sorts of friendly little samples during game- and braketime make this game a joy not only for the eye but also the ear!!!
All together i have to say that after more than ten years this game, deu to a magical mix off components, still hasn't been topped!!! Not only with 4 friends together this game stands for hours of fun but even alone its good for a rimrockin time!!!
B.t.w. this game is rumoured to be out for Live Arcade soon, we could compete online then. They'll be doing us all a big favour!!!
Rating: - Nothing compared to the previous versions of NBA JAM
Being a followup version of NBA JAM it should have kept some of the same options previous versions had. Particuly the "dunks from anywhere" and "unlimited fire" codes. Because it's more fun to play with those codes sometimes then it is to play this difficult game. The stratagy compared to JAM is a lot harder and makes it less fun IMO, you can't just turn up the juice and kick your opponents a## in this one because the computer will always make a comeback instantly every single time, even if you get 20 points ahead all of a sudden you cant sink a bucket, your instantly blocked by the comp or it will steal from nowhere and there 3 pointers never miss even with players who in real life cant shoot for $#!%.
It is very hard to block or grab rebounds against the computer, shots dont go in nicely like in NBA JAM, and it's difficult enough to get on fire, let alone, stay on fire with the cheating computer instantly making come backs to make it a hard to win matchup everytime... eventualy you do work out the stratagy and it becomes a challenge to win instead of being fun to play.
There are some cool new options tho, the graphics are better then the old SNES Jams and there is new cool dunks and ally oops, double dunks, and "team fire" where if you can make 3 ally oops in a row both of your teamates become on fire with a blue colored flame. The create a wrestler is a cool idea, but you cant do much then just choose heads and attributes and a nickname.. tho I dunno what more you could create for a basketball game? Maybe a whole new team or something and a cheat to get max points, you have to win 4 games in a row to 2 new atributes... ok if you have a memory card, but it sucks if you dont and all data is lost when the machine is turned. Why does it use a memory card???? The SNES versions never needed to use them, and it takes up little space on the memory card, enough to have been in a battery backup option.
Overall I'd much rather be playing the much funner versions on the SNES then this one... I dont like that there is no "unlimitd on fire" or "unlimited team fire" cheat. The code "461" does enable a cool out=door, street style court to play on which is a lot easier on your eyes then the red and orange of the usualy looking indoor courts (codes hold left, block, block ...[<200])... but unless you are playing this game with 4 people then its no fun. probably a lot of fun with a game shark, but not on its own.. and when you get through the 29 teams, there is no cool ending like on the SNES one where it showed video things of real dunks... this one just rolls credits and says thanks for letting us waste your time.
Rating: - Airball
Not many games in the video game industry can actually be a triumph as a spinoff, or a remake. For Midway, following up the success of NBA Jam was a difficult challenge. It became the highest-grossing video game in the industry, with more than $1 billion to the name. As NBA Hang Time was set to commence, many people had no idea of how good this game was going to be.
NBA Hang Time was the very first full-length Basketball video game for the Nintendo 64, giving newcomers who had just bought the smash console a chance to really get some air. Hang Time had also created something new to the mix that makes it all seem interesting. The game is a bit similar to NBA Jam, but there was something a little different. The game also included a create a player mode, a mode where instead of speding a few quarters at the arcade, you can createyour very own basketball player, by controlling how tall you want him, how good he can block you, and even how good his aim is for the hoop.
Although many people aren't interested in NBA Hang Time as much as they're interested in newer games that came out for Playstation 2 and XBOX, but there are some new gamers out there who have the Nintendo 64, that might want to enjoy the 2 on 2 Basketball fever. If you own the Nintendo 64, but you don't have NBA Hang Time, you need to make that shot for 3, and get this video game.
Rating: - The newest NBA Jam, not bad at all
Hang Time was the newest incarnation of the very popular and ongoing NBA JAM series except now it went a little more high scale because it takes the NBA on NBC jingles, videos and of course the stills and visuals of the NBA on NBC TV programming.
Like all NBA JAMs, totally outrageous basketball from start to finish. You can expect anything and everything in this one from more out of this world dunks to being "On Fire" shooting and of course the newly added alley oops and free throws. Yes that's right, no more shoving your opponents all over the place because now they get 2 foul shots, each worth 3 points a piece (and even Shaq can hit these free throws!)
You can even create your own character and build that character to be the best as you take on the entire NBA in 2 on 2 mayhem. You also get to answer NBA trivia (just like on TV during games). Pretty cool.
I'd get this one because I personally think that this is NBA JAM at it's best. Very fun and also very cool to play with friends. Especially if you and a friend are good enough to pull off the triple alley oop pass for Team Fire. Again, check it out!
