Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - 3.5 stars - better than people say it is
The Castlevania series is, without question, one of the greatest two-dimesional side-scrolling platformer action game series of all time. Unfortunately, the series had its share of blunders, too, one of which being the first entry on the Game Boy - the game had an extremely slow character, jerky play control, and virtually no replay value. Fortunately, the second Game Boy entry renewed my faith in the series having potential on a portable console. Circa 1998, this (the third Game Boy Castlevania), featuring Super Game Boy enhancements, was released. How does this measure up? Read on for my review of Castlevania Legends.

PROS:
-THE CONTROL IS CONSIDERABLY LESS STIFF THAN IT WAS IN EARLIER GAME BOY CASTLEVANIA GAMES. Your character moves a little faster than in the previous two entries on the handheld, and you have midair jump control - something the series often lacks. Overall, the controls generally feel more responsive, too.
-THERE ARE TWO DIFFICULTY LEVELS, MAKING THE GAME IDEAL TO PLAYERS OF ALL SKILL LEVELS. If you choose the Standard Mode, you start the game with a regular whip and must upgrade it like in any Castlevania game. But if you choose the Light Mode, you start the game with a whip that shoots fireballs and never loses this ability.
-THE GAME FEATURES SUPER GAME BOY ENHANCEMENTS. If you're one of those people who still has a Super Nintendo and you have a Super Game Boy and this game, you can take advantage of these enhancements.
-THE GAME SERVES AS A PREQUEL TO THE OTHER CASTLEVANIA GAMES. This game is, essentially, the origin of how the Belmonts became vampire hunters. Also, you actually get some of the storyline in the game, so you don't necessarily have to read the instructions to get the whole story.
-YOU CAN SAVE YOUR PROGRESS WITH PASSWORDS. This is a very good feature, because it means you don't have to complete the game in a single sitting.
-FINALLY, A CASTLEVANIA GAME THAT LETS YOU PLAY AS A FEMALE CHARACTER! I don't know about you guys, but I was getting sick of playing as a bunch of male Belmonts who all looked and played the same.

CONS:
-THE GAME FAILS TO TOP ITS GAME BOY PREDECESSOR, BELMONT'S REVENGE. As good a game as this is, the predecessor was better in a number of ways.
-THE GAME'S "PREQUEL" STORYLINE HAS BEEN RENDERED OBSOLETE BY THE NEW PLAYSTATION 2 CASTLEVANIA, LAMENT OF INNOCENCE. Lament Of Innocence takes place before this game, meaning that this game no longer fills its role as the "first game in the series to take place." As much as I like this series, Konami has a tendency to create plenty of plot holes.
-THE SUPER GAME BOY ENHANCEMENTS REALLY ADD NOTHING TO THE GAME. The color scheme provided by the accessory is pretty much monochromatic, and the border is nothing special either. Why not just play it on a regular old Game Boy?

OVERALL:
Overall this is a good but not great entry in the classic vampire killing series. If you can find it for a low price, I recommend purchasing it. This game is not nearly as bad as people say it is - it's actually quite enjoyable.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Not all that good
I got a chance to play this a few years back, and to be honest, I didnt like it. I felt the gameplay to be VERY SLUGGISH, and just outright boring.
I am not a HUGE fan of the Castlevania series, but I did LOVE SOTN. I thought that was a GREAT PS1 game. I felt Legends to be very shallow in most parts, but the game was not all that bad. I just wish that the programmers could of spent more time making the gameplay more exciting, but instead they didnt. Get this game if you are a fan of the series, but if you are not, then dont bother wastening your 20 bucks.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Where did they go wrong?
You play as a chick. Okay, that's the absolute best part of the game. The music is pretty good but the play-control is very sluggish. The game just seems too shallow. I hope Sonia returns in a game that can do her justice, after all, she IS the very fisrt Belmont (according to Konami) generation-wise.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A great game!
Castlevania legends is again a very good game like all of its predesesors. I recommend it a lot!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - castlevania lengends
castlevania lengends was a ok game it's not in the class of some of the other castlevania series. overall it was a entertaining game and not to hard to beat one of the great features it has you can get a password to continue the level you left off I would recommend this game to mine friends
