Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Only the theme is the same, you are a small time crook, looking for a break that will get you into the big time. The game is set in a vast, slightly futuristic city, where the Police force have become a paramilitary force and the city is controlled by a number of vicious organized crime gangs.

Amazon.com Review:
If you've lived a life that's full, traveling each and ev'ry highway, it's still likely you haven't yet done it your way, until you play GTA. The game that made it's fame by letting you run down pedestrians and shoot innocent bystanders has returned with better graphics and amazing improvements to the multitude of sound effects.

From the first moments of the installation, Grand Theft Auto 2, offers the same smarmy, self-important hipster "atti-tude" that overtakes people who get tattoos and then think they're rebellious; in spite of this, it's one of the most entertaining games around. Parents beware: this isn't a driving game, but rather a title that prides itself on valuing random violence. (At certain points in the game, for example, your character is rewarded with a "kill frenzy," where he or she gets to kill as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time). But we think it's a hilarious and engaging interpretation of modern urban life and wouldn't trade GTA--to update a cliché--for all the crack in Philly.

Here's the 411: you're trying to impress low-life, underworld crime bosses, and you have to do their dirty work in any way you can. This includes killing people, stealing cars, throwing bombs, inciting mayhem, and belching at passers-by. But the best part of this game comes once you start a carjacking. More patient players pick the parked cars and evade the cops for longer; those of us with limited attention spans just like using a truck to bang into other drivers in the way, ramming them until the road is clear. The new edition boasts better graphics for these escapades, but there is still something to be said for the pixellated pleasure of the first GTA, in the same way that some of us hold a fondness in our heart for our TRS-80 Tandys.

Once you adjust to the birds-eye view, it's easy to become obsessed with completing your missions. The improved AI is as clever as the rest of the game; in version two, for example, the bus we were driving caught on fire after we hit too many cars. Imaginative and capable of making you laugh out loud even as you ready your rocket-launcher, Grand Theft Auto 2 is a great ride. --Jennifer Buckendorff

Amazon.com Product Description:
The sequel to the ever-popular car jacking game is here. Grand Theft Auto 2 sets you up as a novice criminal trying to make yourself infamous in a crime-filled world. The game has three levels, each inhabited by three different gangs. Pick up a pay phone and accept one of the odd jobs that the gangs offer you. Of course, you have to earn the gangs' respect before you can take the really good jobs. Try to impress them by wiping out their rivals. Once you do, you'll get the good jobs--delivering drugs, picking up bank robbers, and bombing office buildings.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - You aren`t going to buy this, right?
To be a PC game I would expect it to be like in the xbox, I mean that you could see the person and you could see the things in the way that the character sees them. This is just as PS1 and that`s not such a good console...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - I'm slowly catching up on VG's so bare with me
For years now i've loved playing the first GTA. I hadnt played it for a while and I ended up playing it again recently for the hell of it. The only other GTA game i'd ever played was a demo to GTA London that didnt impress me... well, thanks to someone telling me you can now download this game for free, i figured... what the hell, why not.

At first I didnt like the vehicles, apparently it's set sometime in the future, but they looked more like the past to me. I wasnt all that impressed untill I blew something up and loved the graphics of the new explosions. The flame thrower looks awsome, the machine gun fires more smoothly, and the elctr gun and other added goodies are a real treat.

Just like the original GTA, i find this game so much more fun when activating cheats for infinite lives and weapons ect... if you kill people or jijack cars near cops, or kill enough people, the cops come after you. If you kill enough cops, the swat team join in, if you take out swat, the special agents come along, take out the agents, then the streets run red with military everywhere coming at you with guns, phasers & tanks. I liked that new feature... it was always fun to use a tank in the first GTA but there was only one per mission, they could only fire on a kill frenzy and once they where gone, they where gone... where as in this game, there is one hidden tank per level, but if you get the military after you, there is tanks galore... it's just too bad the other tanks will blow you to smitherines when your in one, so get out just before it blows. The invincibility/god mode cheat works well, but only on foot, if youre ina vehicle...KABOOM!

Everything else is pretty much the same as the original game, do missions, blow things up, run from this and that, take out him and her, steal one of those and take it to whatever.

I may not like the vehicles they used for this game, but the good thing about the PC version is you can do something about that. You can find various info on the net for sites where you can download new vehicles, or make your own and put them into the game... now i'm cruising around in Knightrider and the General Lee avoiding Lambourghini Cop Cars and it makes the game a lot more enjoyable.

Unless the free version is different, the only thing i did miss from the orginal was the end of level movies... i know they wernt much, but it was at least something for your reward of completing a level. Which reminds me, there is only 3 levels in this game, but unlike the first GTA, you only do the 3 levels once. But there are a whole heap of bonus games to play with this one. Just a heap of bonus stages of kill frenzies galore.

There are alot of improvements in this, and so, i still preffer the original GTA over this one, but it's not to say this game isnt as good, the only way i'd say this game was crap would be if they go back and make the original GTA game with the graphics of this game, with weaopens and bonuses and everything included.

It would be nice to see an ultimate GTA game where both this game, the original and London where all packed into the one game. And i dont mean a ppackage where you can buy all 3 together, or it has 3 discs of each game... i mean add them all into the one game, 6 or more missions, start with the original 3, then the londons, then this games and include even more to each game with it.

Anyway, this game certinly has brought out my interest to check out the latest GTA games like GTA 3 and San Andreas ect... And as soon as i buy them sometime this week, you can check out my review of them sometime soon.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great game for old schoolers
This is a great game, really fun. It's not 3D, but so what, this game rocks. One feature that makes this stand out among even the recent GTA games is, of course, MULTIPLAYER! We actually played this game for several hours at a LAN party. Incredibly addictive.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - I feel sorry for you
For the review below mine, I feel sorry for you kid. It is the year 2005 and you have windows 95 and you do not have a graphics card compatible with gta 2? How old is your computer? Ah, anyway, the game is fun and, just like the new ones lets you go anywhere you want. But still, save you money and don't buy this game, because the new ones are much better.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - WONT WORK
