Amazon.com Product Description: Panzer General 3D Assault charts new territory for military strategy games by being the first of its kind to incorporate a three-dimensional environment without compromising the standards of depth and playability set by its predecessors. In this environment, forests burn during combat, cities and airfields can be destroyed, and units smoke and burn with damage. Additional features include a freely rotating camera and map, as well as a simplified and more intuitive interface. Besides making the leap into 3-D, Panzer General 3D Assault features a new combat system that truly puts the "General" in Panzer General. The system now emphasizes leader management instead of unit management. Players can promote, dismiss, or reassign their commanders in order to maximize their forces. As leaders gain experience and are promoted, they acquire more actions per turn and can perform more effectively. In addition to standard orders, leaders acquire and command up to 40 "veteran" orders, allowing them to launch all-out attacks, dive-bomb enemy positions, and attack with greater accuracy. Players can fight as the American, British, German, or French forces, choosing one of eight different campaigns on the Western Front during World War II, including North Africa. Ten areas of operation provide a variety of terrain and mission objectives. A new headquarters interface allows players to customize their armies to fit the upcoming battle. In addition to two-player combat via modem, Panzer General 3D Assault supports up to four players via LAN.

The many bugs in this game make it unplayable. I have been a PG fan for many years and have ultimately settled on PG 3 Scorched Earth, which has far less problems that 3-D Assault. I just wish someone would produce a newer turn-based strategy game that compares to the PG series.
Rating: - I'd love it if it worked.....
If I could get this game to work on either of my two systems, then I thik that I'd love it. The graphics are clean and easy to watch. But the game stops in mid scenario on my XP machine (did not think it would work perfectly there, since it's not rated for XP), but I cannot even get into the game on my W98 laptop, I can assign the commanders to the units, but then cannot get to the game map to play the game.
Well, I still have that old W95 machine that I have not used in a while. It might just be worth it to try it there.....
Rating: - A lot of fun
I've come straight to this game from the original Panzer General, on the original Playstation. I loved it then, and love this newer version of the game. The main appeal of this game is it is easy to learn and fun to play, and doesn't take months to complete one scenario (although the campaign games may, if you have a life outside of the computer). The units, while toy-Axis-&-Allies-like, are still fun to watch. It's pretty cool to watch a German tank rumble cross-country on the advance. The only complaint I have about this game is that it is sometimes difficult to find units in cities. A highlight feature that "lights up" a unit in a city when the mouse cursor touches it would have been helpful. However, this is a very small complaint, since once you forget about a unit in a city, it's the last time and you learn what to look for to see your troops. I've been wargaming, board and computer, for near twenty years now, and I think this title has appeal for newbies and veterans alike. Buy it if you like turn-based wargames.

Rating: - A Wargame for Beginners
This game is very accessible to people who are new to wargames.
I'm a hardcore FPS gamer (Quake 3, UT) and have only played one other wargame (Panzer General 2, which I really liked, even though I didn't know what the heck I was doing).
I like the "improvements" in PG3DA, and SSI has made it very easy for beginners to jump right into scenarios or campaigns. If you've never played a wargame, this is the game you should check out.
